Hi Folks,

I am looking to buy a traditional bowie and came across this one:

HEN & ROOSTER™ Genuine Stag Bowie Knife $89.95
Hand Crafted in Spain

Anyone here has any experience with this knife?

The description sounds wrong:
HEN & ROOSTER AND Genuine Stag Bowie Full Tine Knife Knives
The Blade is German Stainless with Hen & rooster German - Stainless etching. The Tang is stamped HR - 5019 Toledo-Spain. The maker of the original Hen & Rooster knives, Bertram, was founded in 1845 and was quickly recognized as the finest knife made in Solingen, Germany. These knives remain the Highest Quality with exceptional attention to detail that continue to impress knife collectors world wide. Hen & Rooster uses high quality Cattle Bone

- I don't think that is a "Bowie" shape.

- A "German Blade" made in Spain? This does not smell right. IIRC German law does not require the actual country of origin marked on the product.

- And why are they promoting cattle bone on a "stag" handled knife?

If it were I, I would be looking elsewhere.

Check out the (non BF dealer member reference removed), they list these knives.
Looks like an inexpensive drop point hunter to me.

I would say check out a more rep proven dealer. (non BF dealer member reference removed) is a good one!

I got several of thess in different blade shapes, they hold a good edge with zero chipping some i have bought as cheap as $30 bnib,go for it.............

I have four of the Spanish made H&R fixed blades, two of which could be called Bowies, all in bark ram's horn. Beautifully made knives and the steel is so close to 440C in the way it sharpens and holds an edge that the difference is meaningless. I have also bought several knives from the dealer you mention in the OP, with no problems or regrets of any kind. Buy with confidence.

Necro posts. Gotta love them. The posting rules have changed since 2009. I think the OP has found his Bowie by now.
