no... not Jimi.....

But Wayne Hendrix of South Carolina.

I'm a big fan of his semi-skinners -

I have always tryed to get some of Wayne's knives, but was not able to get any over the net. Recently in Atlanta, I fixed that. I picked up 3 of the semi-skinners, a bocote, a stabilized maple burl and a mirror polished one with bright orange G-10 handles and blue liners (a tribute to the Orangemen!). Very good knives at excellent prices.

According to his website, he's in Allendale, SC.

Since there seems to be a lot of interest in his knives I have 4 more (2 of model #11) that I'll post pics of later......

In the meantime for those who may not have taken notice in this thread here in the Gallery:
Blade Show 2003 Photos - Pt.2

There was this photo of Wayne and Ruby Hendrix:

That is a really great looking bunch of knives. They look to be exceptional values. It's hard to imagine how he can do it for those prices.

Hendrix makes a fantastic knife! The quality is superb and for the cost, is one awesome deal!

I had 2 of his knives and I have always regreted selling them...

I could not recommend them enough!

Nice collection!

Nice knives! I'm fond as his semi-skinners as well.
I picked up a model 19 from him at Blade last year.
It's one of my most used fixed blades. Great values.

More experience Hendrix :D

(e-mail sent) -

spyken,

I will help if I can.

Just so you know -

I don't have any special connections with Wayne Hendrix.

I have never had an e-mail reply from them - despite the fact they do know me -
I think the web site merely collects the e-mail and passes on printed copies to him -
so they are probably NOT actually on-line.

- any phone calls are still costly long distance for me.

eg: I have in theory an order outstanding from the year 2000 of one of his standard models (ie: nothing special) - that Wayne never actually completed.

One's best bet is to buy an already made knife - from him direct at a knife show - or from his workshop in Allendale SC.

I see him once a year at the Blade Show in Atlanta - this means I will not see any Hendrix knives until next June/2004.

I know you've posted for help on BladeForums already -
but it might be worth posting again asking specifically for anyone in/near the Allendale, South Carolina area who would be willing to go to Wayne's shop and buy a specific model from him direct for you - that is IF he actually has what you want already made.....

Let me know if I can be of any other help.

I was taught that one of sure signs of good workmanship is to look at the tapered tangs - these are the ones on some Hendrix's knives:

Hendrix11_tang_S.jpg

both ~$75 (#11's)

Hendrix1_tangs.jpg

a little more expensive at about $100 (#13) and $125 (#1) - due extras like mirror polish, stainless steel guards and liners.

Compare to the almost impossibly thin taper tang on the thin Bud Nealy MCS presentation grade Aikuchi
bNealy_tang_S.jpg

this happens to display actual size on my monitor
(the Hendrix's are shown very slightly smaller than actual size)
