First post on Bladeforums (been lurking a bit), so please excuse me if this is the wrong section to post in.

What hex screw bits do I need for general knife maintenance? Such as deconstructing, maintenance of pivot screw for tightness, etc? Any all-in-ones for a decent price I should look for?

Hi Jalopyy

Welcome to the forum, and Merry Christmas!

The short answer is a set of Wiha torx wrenches - most knives use torx and not allen (hex) fasteners, and at the small sizes that you find on knives it is difficult to see the difference with a quick look (or older eyes...)

I did a quick search using the search feature of the forum and found these threads for you -

There's some mini screw driver sets at stores like Home Depot and Lowes that are pretty good. I have one and it has varying sizes of phillips/flat head/hex/star bits.

I have 2 of the HD Husky sets.. While the are good the Wiha set I have is a ton better!! IMO!!! Tighter fit and more sizes.. John

I've bought many many many Hex/Torx bit sets over the years and nothing compares to Wiha or Wera

I love Wera screwdrivers when I work on my bicycles but for small repairs and maintenance, like on knives and watches, the Wiha 75093 micro bit set is top notch.

The times where you notice the quality of bits is when you come across some small fasteners (like T6) that are stuck. I've learned first hand how easy it is to strip those (and I've also mangles some low quality driver bits).

The handle on the Wiha 75093 can be a bit small when it comes to loosening tight fasteners, so I also bought a Wiha Micro Bit to 1/4" Drive Insert Bit Adapter 75802 so I can use the Wiha bits with other bigger driver screwdrivers I have.

I purchased the Tekton 2830 27- Piece Precision Bit and Driver Kit from Amazon for $13.49 Canadian. This was compared to a 35-piece set selling at Canadian Tire for $35.99.
