Hello Everyone, I'm Dave and I'm new here. I stumbled across this forum via google when trying to locate or have made a custom knife dagger. I dont know anything about knives so please bare with me. I am looking for someone who can tell me what it is called or what I'm looking for or where to go to have a dagger made. My wife loves the movie a princess bride and I want to get her the "buttercup knife dagger" as seen in the movie. I dont know what it is called or where to start? Can anyone here help me or tell me where I need to post or who to talk to or where to start to find this item? I have pictures but I cant seem to upload them here. Any help would be great. Thanks, - Dave

are you talking about the one she was going to kill herself with?
Yes, the one she was going to kill herself with that she took out of the brown box on the table. I can make the box but the dagger I would need to pay to have made or find since I dont know anything about making knives. Unless there is a place that makes them that would look close to it?

Are you from the RPF? Do a google search for "stiletto dagger" and you'll at least find the style.

.

I've never seen a replica of it. The handle is the tough part, you'd need a good still to see the carving and shape.

It will be high end, but guys like Charles Weiss, Wolfgang Loerchner, etc.... could do it. An example that's similar below -

Ask in the custom forum for ABS mastersmiths that specialize in daggers, the majority of those guys could do it, if the project interested them.

That type of dagger is a medieval dagger. For dueling and piercing armor joints and I guess armor if one is mighty.

I bet one can be found at a prop outlet which might be more of what you're looking for, to display and stuff. I know they used to be sold at the mall cutlery whatever it was called way back when they existed. Along with consumer swords and axes. Hahaha, right? The Cutlery?

I'm sure it would be much cheaper to gave a prop house cast one for you out of resin.
After all it'll only be a display piece so resin will be perfect for this. There are likely people who worked on the movie still in the industry and prop who know other people that know where the original prop or molds for said props that could be used to cast it. You just have to get in touch with the right people.
An image of it could also just be etched into glass.
There are many options besides actually having a real version of the dagger made.

I would say that your best bet would be the RPF, if you get a knife maker to do it, they will make a great knife, no question. But props are different, and so a prop maker will do one that uses materials and methods that will get the look for you, but you won't be spending money on things you didn't need, like the blade steel and heat treatment. They will also have a better idea of how the prop will age, where as most knives are made with at least some maintenance in mind.

. Shame Cold Steel doesn't offer smaller fancy daggers as part of their historical line.

They do. They are in the OP's price range and some of them like the Colichemarde Dagger look pretty darn good, but I'm not sure they are what the op is looking for.

Cold steel uses 1055 to make the daggers usable, it would take some effort to maintain the blade and it sounds like the op is looking for more of a display piece.
