Hibachi or small grill

Grilling season is finally upon us here in Vermont. After, well, forever, my wife and I are alone and my 22" Weber charcoal grill is too big for a couple of steaks (not really but no sense in having to use that much charcoal for a couple of steaks or 2 or 3 burgers).

I'd like a little hibachi or other kind of charcoal grill. I don't need anything fancy, just something easy to use\maintain and not too expensive.

I'd like to get a Lodge Sportsman Grill for that purpose, but they are pricey. If your happy with your current Weber, than their Smokey Joe model works well.

The Smokey Joe would be my recommendation as well.
Mine doubles as a small fire pit.

get that and some lump charcoal. Open up the bottom vent and you can get it hot enough to put a good char on a rare ribeye!

I've got a Weber Smokey Joe and I think it is well made. ~$30.

make sure it's sitting on something fireproof.
My experience with one years back was a tendency to drop hot stuff out the bottom vent holes.

My large kettle sees very little use since I got my Smokey Joe--fast and easy to use since you only need a few coals--much more control-able than the large grill too----no more burnt on the outside, raw on the inside that I got with the large grill.

Mostly cooking for me--sometimes the gf or my kids---the large grill made no sence--kinda kicking myself for buying it in the first place.

The Smokey Joe is fantastic---and its only $30---can't beat that with a stick these days--considering my neighbor has a $1000 Weber gas grill that my Smokey Joe is just as fast and gives better results.

Seems like a great deal. I have read reviews that said it doesn't vent very well? Have you found that to be true?

I have only used it a couple of times, but no, it seemed to vent just fine. I must admit that I am not the best BBQ cook. I will relinquish my man card now. My mom did all of the cooking in my house growing up, including the grilling.

man ive been looking at getting a Sportsman's Grill or the Smokey Joe but cant decide:confused:

Hungry yet?
There are few things in life made as well as the Lodge Grill. NOTHING cooks as well!

After cooking, I'll throw in some pine cones and the fire smells heavenly.

YES!! I've had mine for three years now and it is great for a family of four (burgers, chorizo, chicken breasts, ham slices etc etc ).

They say great minds think alike.
Dang Bushman5 those meals look good!

For years I used to use an old brake drum from the old chevy pickup. Its a 1968 GMC with 6 stud holes perfect for letting in just the right amount of air for charcoal or wood. I placed a grill on top, and good to go.

I cooked alot of meals during my travels with it.

yup ProTourist, nothing like chicken stuffed with bacon, wrapped with bacon and topped with swiss, then grilled over charcoal and apple wood

I like Buffords idea for a grill too.

^ they make a round one too, not sure if its still in production.

and a good LUMP charcoal works best over briqqettes.
