Does anyone have one of these?

I'm a little hesitant because it's being sold by United Cutlery.
I usually don't buy replicas of movie props, but the specs list this monster as being forged from 1090 carbon steel.

At $40 , I figured it would make a good beater for yard work. I don't want it as a wall hanger.

So if you've got one or know someone who does, let me know how it is.

I don't have one, but the handle looks very uncomfortable for prolonged use. There are lots of great machetes at $40 or less with far more comfortable handles.

It's way too short as well. Get a 22" or a 24" Imacasa for $20. Way more useful. Much nicer handle. That thing was designed for killing zombie which is to say nothing usefull at all.

Yeah, most of the reviews I've read say the handles are uncomfortable and need to be re-wrapped with para cord.

+1
Get a standard machete design.

Yep, sorta. Mine is made from a Martindale Panga. A little time lobbing off the upswept end and removing a hack handle job, and voila, same machete. Only thing is mine is getting a real handle. Cannot imagine how that paracord wrapped edge would dig into your hand. Mine cost $10.

I made some changes on mine and it is great . I'm using mine around the house

I just sharpened one for a customer, and it was a piece of junk.
The blade was only hardened in the middle 3 inches, the rest was
dead soft. Did make kind of a "hamon", but it surely wasn't
deliberate. Paracord wrap was one complete hot spot.

I wouldn't waste my money.

That's too bad.... I only wanted it because of the 1095 steel.

Ive got one, its perfectly fine for the price. I sharpened mine to the point that its scary and it still chops hardwood without chipping or denting.

The handle sucks though, i put wood scales on mine and its a huge, huge HUGE difference.

Just about everyone says the handle sucks, if I did get one, I'd probably re-wrap it the way SENGVIN did.

I had a coupon for 25% off, so it would only cost $37 shipped. I figured for that price I'd use it for light chopping, not what you'd want a traditional machete for.

I've seen some videos and it does look to be more of a chopper than a brush clearing machete ( it's short and heavy).

Its much more a chopper, its like 5/16th thick and ive used mine for much harder than "light chopping". Its a pretty decent knife, not the best ever but certainly not junk.

It's a Rambo knife from the last movie. Typically the knife(s) used in the film bring big bucks. One of the older ones sold the other day for $90,000.
The next step down is a numbered edition from the maker, in this case GH. If memory serves they sold for $1200 and sold out.
Then the design goes to United Cutlery and sell for whatever the traffic will bear.
Then the Chinese produce about a billion of them and sell for $10-20.
Then a few years later someone finds one at a garage sale and posts pic inquiring about it's value. Upon learning it's only worth about $3, he then puts it on eBAY with a story about how he inherited from a relative who was a medal winning soldier.
It's called the circle of life.

This one is the GH design without the Rambo logos / trademarks etc. But it does have the GH trademark on it.

Unlike the other past Rambo knives from United, this one is advertised as being made of 1095 tool steel.
That's the only reason it caught my eye. ( plus $37 isn't too much to gamble)

I wanted it to cut low hanging branches and small soft tree stumps when I'm out cutting the lawn ( that's what I told my wife :) ).

Eh, you can get 2 Cold Steel Kukris for that price. Just gotta sharpen them yourself but once you do they'll perform well, probably much better than that GH.

I have a couple Cold Steel Kukris and while they are good they cant handle the hardwood chopping as well as the Hibben

OPs not looking to cut hardwood. Just hanging branches, soft stumps and light chopping according to his posts. Comes with an acceptable handle. Costs half the price. I just think it would fit his needs better. But he seems really partial to the GH design and honestly I say, if you want it, get it, try it and tell us about it because the case with all knives is YMMV.

For that it probably would true.

If the OP wants something that will work for light brush clearing and heavier stuff as well take a look at the Condor Golok
