So i was on the internet looking at knives at 1 am, as you do.

And i came across this website, kinda like aliexpress.

They sell a bunch of fake knives from big names, benchmade, spiderco, CRK, ZT ect
Now most of them are just simple knockoffs, named similar, but made with all cheap materials and look almost the same. For around 10-25$ with free shipping.
I guess these are just plain old trash.

However there's also some on there with high end materials and honestly pretty nice aesthetics for 70 tot 120$

Does anyone here own one of these more expensive fakes?
I wonder what these knives are like.

I briefly owned a Rad Cleaver, purchased to troll the actual maker on IG. It wasn't an outright copy but it was obvious what it was. Still, for $200, it was extremely well made.

uh, fakes are a touchy subject.
but having said that
it becomes highly questionable
if the said fakes
are fabricated, made or constructed
of materials exactly as advertised.
on the other hand
current chinese manufacturing capabilities
are exceeding in both production quantiies and quality.
generally, ethical companies as a matter of pride
reject produce with the slightest hint of defect.
thus, high end products which finally reach the consumer
are the near perfect ones which have undergone high levels
of quality control and inspection.
i really would be skeptical of "high end" fakes
being any where in the league of premium goods.

You'll not any good responses about these knives.
I hear of some being great, but still bad for being knockoff.
They may have a higher end price tag, but there no guarantee that the knife is actually made of what it claims it is.
There are plenty of Chinese companies that are well loved that you could get blades from and many have their own forums here you can browse.
I know you're curious about these knives , but asking about them just never goes over well.

I was gifted a Strider knock off a friend bought at a flea market, for 80 dollars and it was every bit as good as the real thing. I stuffed it in a drawer and can't bring myself to use it, because it's a phony, a fake. Doesn't matter really if it's well made, because it's counterfeit. Just like a well made 100 dollar counterfeit bill is still worthless, no matter how well copied it is.

Yea that's what i was thinking aswell.
Some of them apperently have s35vn or m390 steel, TI handles ect, but that could very well be fake too.

I know the're many great legit chinese knives, i think my next expensive knive will be a WE.

One the one hand i do feel a moral issue with buying a counterfeit product, but i don't think it's nessasairly useless.

I don't always want to carry a very expensive knife, so having something similar for 1/4th the price would be nice.
Especially in the EU with the damn retail prices here.

But ofc brands like CRKT or Kershaw also have good knives in that price range.

The nice fakes use higher-end materials? Sign me up.

Yep, steels like D2, s35vn, m390 full titanium handles, ect.
Or so they say.

Chinese factories have CNC machining in abundance now. They manufacture all sorts of high end goods, we use everyday. Labor is cheap there, they copy a lot of goods it's huge issue as some are sold as the real thing. Most people here aren't going to take pride in buying and carrying a copy of someone else's hard work. It's stealing no matter how you try to justify it. Of course some of these fakes are decent. That's not the point. They ripped off someone's design. Fed it's specs into a machine and came up with a copy. It's illegal here for a reason to do this, even if it's not enforced in China. If you don't mind the fact that by buying one of these counterfeits , you're encouraging thieves and rewarding them, then maybe you won't care when something you worked hard for is also stolen? You probably would be highly upset to find someone else enjoying gain from your hard work wouldn't you?

I'm dead set against fakes. However, a strider fake, id be lenient too, considering the source material designer.... lol

For the time and effort (some) companies spend ripping s/o else's designs and ideas, they should spend that time coming up w/ something original. Use the same quality materials-- if that's what they claim to be using-- and give the market something fresh and new.

No matter how "good" a fake is whether aesthetically, material-wise or functionally, it is *still* a misrepresentation of the genuine product ; a slap in the face to the real designer. Profiting from someone else's designs w/ out license or permission is a low thing to do.

That's my problem with it too.
I don't want to support that.

I'm mainly jut curious about it, because i was only aware if the cheap shitty ripoffs.

That's what i thought aswell.
I saw a benchmade 940 fake for 60 dollars.
The reviews said people could hardly tell a difference in quality.

If they can do that for 60$ and benchmade does it for over 5x that price, that's impressive.

Sure, you can buy the fake and it may be just as good as the real thing. But, you will never have the pride of ownership that comes with the real item.

I own quite a few custom quality knives I feel pride in owning an item that a craftsman sweats and bleeds over to try to hit that sweet spot they are looking for. That reason alone keeps me from owning a copy or a fake just no heart or soul in that blade. Now if you just want to whack down weeds in your yard a Condor chopper is just fine but a knife I carry on me daily is 100% craftsman made always.

I know what you mean, Basmca:) ^^

My thought wasn't directed toward you or anyone; as a matter of fact I think we may share similar opinions on the subject. In regard to the fake BM you saw; I have come across similar "deals." I always think back to the saying,
"...there's no such thing as a free lunch..." If it were really possible to mirror BM's knife in every way for a third of the asking price, Benchmade would probably be out of business.

Sometimes these clones *look* okay, but if taken apart you see the truth. The fakes are geared toward those who may not know a lot about knives. They simply see a bargain and cry later!

Don't support fakes. They are bad knives for the most part anyways. Don't let prices temp you.

The more people that publicly share and talk about fakes the more people end up getting screwed from a sale of a fake as the real thing when it's nothing close.

Don't be that guy.

If you want to be that guy, don't share that you bought a fake and don't try and sell it.

Just like a stolen car!

As you said, there is a world of low-cost, high-quality genuine knives out there that don't rip anybody off, including many made by European companies.

If you cannot afford a high-cost, high-quality genuine knife nothing wrong with that (I can't either right now!). Of course you are free to go with either a low-cost high-quality ripoff knife or a low-cost, high-quality genuine knife.

That's on you and your karma. But I'll take an Opinel, Douk Douk, Mercator, etc in a heartbeat.
