High grit stones for the Lansky system

So I have the Lansky guided angle system, with the ceramic stone at 1000 grit. I saw that Lansky is selling at 2000 grit stone, but nothing in between and nothing beyond.

I'm guessing that other vendors have offered options, but I can't find them - a search for 'lansky compatible' only gives me Lansky products, and I know them all by now ;)

why do you need something more? if you are trying for mirror polish i assume try the Natural Black Hard Arkansas Hone.
otherwise use a bench stone or upgrade to a system with more options?

grits cannot be compared between different substances. There is a chart somewhere that states what they closely compare too tho.

Two reasons really. First is that 1000 to 2000 grit sounds like a biiig step, so I was thinking of trying at 1500 hone in between.
The other reason is that I wanted to give that mirror polish a go. Thanks for your suggestion. That's the one you meant, right?

yes, thats the stone. i have not worked with the lansy system so im not sure how well it will polish, but it says its for polishing. you may want to finish up with a strop with 1micron or lower grit diamond spray, cbn, or whatever compound.

i dont think 1000 to 2000 is that big of a jump. you are just trying to remove the scratch pattern of the prior grit and that should be fine. im no expert tho. what other stones do you have? you should have a progression of a few grits before you even start with 1000, unless you are just touching up.

If you have no luck finding the stone you want, give this a try:
Pick up some automotive finishing sandpaper and double-stick-tape it to an existing stone. You can try a number of grits, then buy the stone you want base d on your findings (instead of paying the price of a stone just to try it out).

That said: I can easily achieve a mirror finish with 1200 SiC sandpaper and Windex. You might be able to do the same.

To get the mirror polish just go from the 2000 grit to several compound loaded strops. I use my lansky all the time. I go all the way up to the blue sapphire stone (2000 grit). I then strop with Aluminum Oxide. Next is Chromium Oxide. Finally is either a bare leather strop or Iron oxide. I get my blades mirror polished. However it does heavily depend upon the steel. I love Aus 8 for this. Super steels obviously take longer to polish.
