My family and I might be going on a trip to San Marcos, TX and I was wondering if anybody was familiar with the surrounding area. Any cool hiking spots or anything interesting. I knew alot of guys in the Marines that were from Texas and the said the "Hill Country" is awesome. Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

Pedernales Falls State Park is cool, especially during flash flood season. Enchanted Rock is very cool. Google them. Then there's always Luckenback, Texas, where you can hang out with Waylon, Willie, and the boys. Semper Fi.

Most of the land is private, but there are a few state parks where you can stretch your legs.

Yup, head west to the Hill Country (not a lot in San Marcos other than car dealers and an outlet mall). Wimberley is nice, but gentrified. Pedernales SP is nice, and the swimming hole at Hamilton Pool (a natural limestone collapsed sinkhole) is great.

While you're in the area, try to catch a little barbeque. Cooper's is my favorite -- the original in Llano is a bit of a drive, but they've got a new location somewhere around New Braunfels.

Im a born and raised Texan and while most of my outdoor adventures have been in the south east ive made a few trips to hill country. Beautiful landscape. Enchanted rock has always been one of my fav. Places in the area. Where ever u go remember to take lots of pocs
