Does anyone know what company offered the first Coke Bottle and what year or era? I imagine it was before an actual "Coke" bottle was ever invented.
What was their original purpose? Skinning game? Self Defense?
Thanks for any info!

Sargents "Knives and Razors" 7th Edition shows Case Brothers (circa 1896-1915) Coke Bottles on pg.43. I assume that these were originally Hunting Knives and were probably called "Swell Center Hunters". Just a guess at the name. Somebody will come up with something from Levine.

My feeling is that they were primarily sold as folding hunters. They date at least to 1884, here is a page from the 1884 HSB catalog.

That's pretty cool. I didn't know H,S&B sold name brand knives, I assumed they only sold their house brand.

That pattern sure is pleasing to the eye. I've really been wanting to add one to my growing collection for sure.

I'm not sure of much in the way of Coke Bottle history, except that I'm fairly sure the pattern is older than its namesake. ;)

Here's mine. I carry this one a lot; big fan of large pocket knives, folding hunters, etc.

Nice knife!:D

The "coke bottle" or swell-center hunter was reported to be Lt. Col. George Custer's favorite knife. I will try and find the reference to this. It is said he carried one most of the time, so that dates it to prior to 1876.

I like them.

I have an older Case Coke Bottle that my sweet mother in law bought me at an auction.

I treasure it.

I would love to see info on that!

Cokebottles were the folding hunter of the day until Case started making the folding hunter of today. Cokebottles go way back in to the 1800s. I have a Challenge with Daniel Boone etched on the blade. I like um

I can imagine that while a slipjoint quite a few of them were carried and/or used for self defense or nefarious means in their day.

I only own one Coke Bottle myself but I do love the pattern.
My Golden Rule Cutlery. From what I can find online it is from before 1924 (the other knife is a Schrade of course)
