Any idea what tool is used to remove thumb studs from a Hogue Ritter or Hogue style thumb stud in general.

Thumbs studs need to be removed for proper sharpening on Edge Pro.

Thanks.

I removed mine as well for sharpening (12.5 dps) - the screw broke off in the stud so be careful. I use nylon soft jaw pliers

No, no torx on the Hogue Ritter.

There is torx in the Benchmade Ritters. Removed those regularly.

I will give this a shot. If it breaks off, I will either send it back for another set or replace with an aftermarket stud.

Yeah I replaced mine with ticonnector studs

Did anyone find a good way to remove the thumb studs for sharpening on the Hogue mini ritter?

Just to follow-up. I did contact Hogue and on the mini ritter they have a special key to remove the thumb studs. They advised me to have the knife sent to them for warranty repair to remove the thumb studs and then they'd send it back sans thumb studs. Just wanted to post this for others should they want to remove them. Without removing them I don't think it would be possible to sharpen on an edge pro/hapstone system or other clamp based system.

When did this happen? My Hogue Ritter has a torx on one side..?

Same. I have a newer full-size one about 1 year old that looks like Torx. So apparently the full-size and Mini are different. However I sharpened mine freehand on bench stones or with a handheld Venev, so I never had to remove the studs.

I just want to remove them because they're sharp as hell. I wonder if the Benchmade studs and lock studs will fit it?

I just received this knife and both pads of my thumbs are a bit sore. Really liking the knife, it is a big improvement in every way to my Benchmade 555.

But I would like to change out these thumb studs as well, or at least tame them down a little. I watched a YT review on these when I was researching and the reviewer said he used a ceramic rod - the only one I have is quite a bit larger and round to boot so I'm not sure how well it would work.

Interested to hear what others have tried or accomplished here.
