How are Maui Jim polarized lenses versus Oakley polarized?

I've been wearing polarized canteens and m-frames for a few months now and I'm impressed with thier performance around water and the road, or any other glares. A couple of things I don't really dig at all is 1; the Oakley polarized lenses aren't really good with full sun at, they are great with glares, but don't block enough full light. And 2, I get a rainbow effect when trying to look at my phone or labtop with them.

I've heard great things about these maui jims. I like fishing and swimming, and the snow here can get pretty bright. How do maui jims hold up to glare compared to oakleys, and are they as tough as oakleys? Do they scratch easily? How are their people?

From my understanding the the Maui Jim's and Costa Del Mar's have much better lenses than Oakley's.

I believe you will get the "rainbow effect" on some stuff no matter what brand you buy.

No matter what LCD screens and Polarized sunglasses are hit or miss. Depending on the angle of the polarization it can completely block light from LCD screens and displays or look completely normal.

I like Maui's and Oakley's. I would say if your gonna buy glass then definately go with the Mauis. Plus I'm not sure Oakley sells any glass lenses. Between both brand in Poly lenses, it's a toss up. For everyday I wear a pair of oakley's non-polarized, I find that polarized lense are too much of a hassle for everyday (iphone, GPS). But for outdoors and water nothing beats glass lenses by Maui. I also believe that the polarization on the Oakleys is sprayed on, while Mauis are layered.
I had a pair of polarized monster-pups that I lost and they were great with full sunlight. Do you have the reflective coating on you lenses?
I've also heard good things about Costa's, but have never owned a pair.

After going through several pairs of Oakleys "coating kept dissolving when around saltwater" I went Maui Jim and won't ever go back.

Honestly their optical clarity is amazing and I think their polarization is superior in quality but that's one guys opinion.

Simply put I love my Maui Jim's.

With that said lcd screens are hit and miss. I think it has more to do with the manufacturing of the lcd screen then the glasses. I had a Samsung instinct that was impossible to read with my glasses on. Switched back to a blackberry and have no problem. I can never see the numbers on a gas station pump with my glasses on. ??? Your guess is as good as mine.

Never had the costa's but have also heard good things when I lived in Fl.

Remember that the Costa's and Maui Jim's were made specifically for SW fishing so they were designed for bright glare. If you can find a place to look at them and try them on first. Also if bright sunlight is a requirement make sure that you look through all the shades of lenses on the glasses. You can go to Maui Jim's ewebsite and see the data on the difference between the colors. I think rose has the most light passage and grey is the least.

I had the same problem with my polarized Oakley XX's.

Burned me up when the lenses on my pair of $180 glasses flaked off!

That's my understanding as well. I'm a die-hard Oakley fan but I'll always aknowledge that Maui Jim makes good stuff as well.
If you're not satisfied with the performance of your M-Frames you might want to look at a lens that filters out more light; they offer a chart on their website with percentages of light allowed through. That should be cheaper than a whole new pair but you never know with the prices they charge for lenses.

Maui Jim's are nice for pure glass. I use my Oakleys as safety glasses though, so I prefer them.

The polarization on Oakleys is baked into the lenses, not sprayed on. That reflective outer is an additional coating (Iridium they call it?).

Never dunked them in salt water, but I buy through REI. 100% Satisfaction guaranteed. Even on sunglasses. :)

I don't wear either because I wear glasses and am too cheap to buy prescription Maui's, but my friend sells Oakley and Maui's in his shop I used to help out in from time to time and the Maui's are worth every penny. Great glasses and the company really stands behind its warranty. They are very good about repairs, replacements, new lenses, etc. Really great company with a really great product. How rare is that?!

I've had the same pair of Maui Jim's since 2002 and they've been around the world at least 3 times. No issues, no problems, no worries and no regrets.

I think the rainbow effect is a property of the polarization and will happen with even the best glasses.

The two Maui Jims I've had are significantly better than the three Oakleys I've had. I had silver framed Oakleys that would start to lose the coating on the frames after a month or so. Same with black frames. The lenses were also more prone to scratching.
