How can I permanently mark ceramic stones?

Speaking of the sharpmaker from my other post, I have a set of ultra fine rods for the Spyderco Sharpmaker. The red paint on the ends are wearing off and feeling the difference between these and the fine stones is kind of difficult. Is there a way to permanently mark or etch these stones in case they get mixed up?

I put dots on the end of mine with a Sharpie (1, 2, 3 dots over each corner) so I always match what edges I use at the same time.

Sharpie works. Lasts for as long as I've had the stones.

A good way for a mostly permanent marking is to use a diamond grinding pin in a Dremel and write it into the ceramic with that. Then use a Sharpie to color in the letters. Since they're below the rest of the surface the markings won't get rubbed off.
