How do I lube and adjust my new paramilitary2?

Hi all, I just picked up a paramilitary 2 a few weeks ago, its a great knife but its a little resistant to opening and closing. I know sometimes new knives have to be "broken in" so I have opened and closed it plenty of times but its still not quite right. My question is should I oil it first and see if that works and then adjust it, or should I adjust it first and then oil it if adjusting it didn't help? Or do you generally just do both at the same time? Also, when oiling a blades pivot point, where is the best place to apply the oil? Are most blades oiled from the factory?

I know these are pretty simple questions but I just got into collecting and would like to understand the basics of knife maintence before I end up with a bunch of dicked up blades soaked in oil flopping around because I over loosened the pivots, haha.

Thanks

If you have the S30V blade, you really don't need to oil it. The steel itself is fairly corrision resistant.
The way the knife is designed, there really is nothing to adjust. Both sides of the pivot should be tightened down, and the blade can and should open smoothly.
Do not oil the lock area, or use excessive oil on the pivot. The only thing you will accomplish is getting dirt and other junk trapped inthe pivot, and increase the difficulty in unlocking the knife. Oil attracts dirt and other debris from your pocket like a magnet. If the knife is new, it shouldn't need anything, just takes a bit of time to get used to it.

It will most likely work its way in. If you want, you can play with the pivot and stop pin screws a bit, but as reddevil said, due to the design of the pivot bushing, the screws are meant to be tightened all the way down. Once broken in, the blade should swing closed freely when the lock is released even with all screws tightened.

Would the same apply to a tenacious or byrd cara cara 2? What I mean is should those knives just be adjusted and not oiled, or is that something that only applies to a higher end steel like s30v?

It makes no sense to not apply a drop of oil to each bushing especially of they are metallic. It will smooth the action a lot.

I wouldn't use oil for say. Though I would suggest lubricating the pivot area with a drop or two of Tuf-Glide on each side. It shouldn't take much more than this and it works wonders. I use it on all of my folders including my own Para 2.

Nano-oil, weapon shield, tuff glide, militec-1, a light motor oil. Any of these and many others not listed will work just fine.

My Para 2 was a bit stiff when I got it. I would not worry about messing with the pivot or oiling anything. Just use it. The knife is perfect now, with solid lock-up. In the end it's a tool, meant to be used.

Apparently the knife isn't perfect based on his description of it.

I can't blame him for wanting the knife to operate smoothly.

I put a little drop of break-free clp with a needle applicator on my PM2, and I can say it was even smoother than before. I keep my knives in a relatively clean environment and I have a air duster canister, so I don't worry about the pivot gunking up.

I lube all my knives with a little oil. the dirt and filth it attracts doesn't bother me, and it doesn't seem like it gets in the way of anything.

I agree it's not normal for a P2 to be resitant to opening unless it is just an unusally stiff detent. Every one I have or had are super silky
