Any of you guys braid or wrap a handle with leather ? I,ve done a couple where I just glued and wrapped them on . I,ve seen a couple where the leather was trimmed up so it could be slipped through a cut in the leather and pulled tight or slipped under a wrap like a knot and tightened up .

I'm interested in the responses you get too Kevin. Good query.

here's a brass klewang grip i wrapped with leather thongs, two strands in opposite directions, alternating wrap positions each turn to make them cross on the sides, kinda like a japanese grip. knot at pommel end is covered by a turks head knot which also provides a swelling to keep sword from slipping out.

grip area:

whole klewang & fur covered scabbard:

ther leather was applied wet, tightened as much as possible & allowed to shrink/dry. the turks head is tight enuff to keep everything in place. there is a slight rise in the brass at the pommel that the knot abuts & is too tight to get over. whole mess was ballistol'd after it dried and so far so good.

I'm not much help.

I googled "knitted leather," "woven leather," "braided leather," to no avail.

I was trying to find a site that would show a leather handle woven like...er...straw. When I was a kid, there were toys that were called "chinese finger puzzles." In effect, you put your finger in the end, and as you pulled away, it constricted the straw and held your finger in place.

No joy. But then, I didn't open a bunch of sites.

Good luck.
