I've noticed that one of my online sources for Tramontina machetes hasnt had any in stock for along time but they've recently added Imacasa machetes for about the same price and there are alot of diffrent models and sizes that look good but I wonder how they compare side by side. How thick are the Imacasa blades and how good are the handles, etc.

Imacasa machetes are better than Tramontina, in my opinion. The steel is harder while still being tough and is less prone towards edge rolls. The handles are super tough thought the wooden ones don't come as nicely finished as Trams so you'll need to put a little extra elbow grease in there. Imacasa is one of the small handful of manufacturers that puts out a tapered machete as well. Not all models have a taper, but you tend to notice it quite positively on those that do. :)

Imacasa machetes I've seen seem about the same as the Trams. However, there seems to be a wider array of Imacasas available, along with their Condor line, and some interesting things they make under the Marble's brand. The Condor and Marble's models have much more nicely finished edges, and sometimes decent to excellent sheaths.

And yet a nice Condor machete is still only $20 or so - compared to what some knives cost that is damn near free! I only own 1 Condor blade, but I'll be buying more.
