Ok, time for a weird question!

I was under the weather for a couple of days and blowing my nose continuously. It got me to thinking! (Dangerous, I know!

How do you blow you nose in a long term survival situation?

I guess my camo neckerchief would become my hankerchief!

This one is called the "farmers hankie". Pinch the non-clogged nostril closed and blow away. You just have to learn to keep your fingers up and away so snot doesn't catch on them. Then use your shirt sleeve or back of hand to wipe off any residual snot under the nose.

I agree with Sgt. Fred. The old "Air Hankie" is by far the easiest nasal evacuation technique in the wilds (and even in your backyard). I know it sure fires the wife up. That alone is well worth the effort!

Great place to practice is in the shower... try to learn how to hit the drain. A few tips.

1)In the field you can blind small game with a good trail booger.

2)Never practice in a bath or a friends hot tub or for that matter, on your rug

3)Always check your shoulder for bits and pieces.

4)Always try to shoot one for distance if you meet some Sierra clubbers on the trail and they are eyeing your fixed blade knife with distaste. Offer an insincere apology if you manage to hit one of their boots or other gear.

I usually carry a trail booger hankie that I use over and over - all the while showing off my display of trail art to whomever will look at it. I usually joke with Ron and our other trippers that when the trip is done I'm going to put it in a pot of boiling water and make booger soup for everyone. Yum....

If I don't happen to have my hankie and I really need to blow - I either use the "farmer's hankie" technique or I blow into my hands then wash them off with some water. It's actually more fun to blow without a hankie because your fingers can really pick far up there!! (as long as you have some water)

That's my 2 cents worth. I'll bet you're really hungry now....

Handkerchief dry cleaning (STRICTLY IN CASE OF EMERGENCY!!!!):

I would never consider it appropriate manner even to mention it but for the benefit of this forum and the human race I will make an exception. I rely on your discretion however..

Improvised from a regular cotton handkerchief during a winter exercise in the middle of need and cold with no help expected . When it is wet and useless it needs to be dried fast close to fire. When done, comes the 'dry cleaning': take the tin-hard material and rub with the dirty side folded inside. When soft again, shake out particulate materials thoroughly and....voila, ready for further use! The procedure might be repeated as needed.

Hope it might help somebody, some time....

What? You ran out of tissues?
Now I've got a question for you:
How are you going to evacuate your bowels?

mosh

ha ha ha ha....

Okay, some of you call it the "farmer's hankie", other's call it the "air hankie", some of you "Noo Yawkers" call it "hangin' a lungie".....I'm trying to keep a straight face here, but, what we refer to as this "process" while moving or running, you call "snot rocket" so the guy behind you doesn't get "nose hosed" form your "evacuation of nasal goo". Of course, don't ever do this while in an Army NCO Training (BNCOC) environment...it pisses the instructors off.
