How do you carry your larger Beckers? Like the BK2, BK7, BK9...

They are quite heavy and not so easy to carry.

I bought a BK2 for a few reasons one being back country hiking. On the day I was leaving for my last hiking trip I was gearing up in my living room and discovered that my BK2 with Azwelke kydex sheath and Tek-lok was too heavy and bulky to fit on the small 1" built in belt on my relatively light weight quick dry hiking cargo shorts and too bulky to be worn on either the shoulder straps or belt strap on my pack. I did not have much time to think so I ended up leaving the BK2 and bringing a Mora knife along with a Mini-Grip.

Since they I have bought a 1.5" nylon webbing Blackhawk! brand belt that I can wear over my pants and regular belt and it is secure enough to carry my BK2 but not quite secure enough for the BK9. Also without belt loops I have to wear the belt pretty tight for it to be secure. So although it works it does not work quite as well as I'd like.

I feel like I have a nice CCW but no good holster or gun belt: the system is not really adequate without a well working complete package, just the gun alone is not enough.

I am wondering what everyone else does to carry their larger Becker knives. I'd especially like a good way to carry my BK9, I'd really like to assemble some sort of modern kydex and nylon baldric but I am not particularly handy, I don't really know what to do so it has been slow going.

Strapped to my pack.

I like 'em danglin'...
This is one of Psyop's(kelley Customs) BK9 dangler sheaths. It also fits the BK4 very well and with the loops in the back, can be used baldric style as well.

I'm a big guy, so my pants/belts are automatically overbuilt. I can carry a 2 no problem on my belt. I can carry my 9 on my belt as well, but I like carrying my 9 on my pack with my hatchet on the other side. I also carry in the stock sheath.

I have also carried my 17 on upside-down on my shoulder strap (left side).

The big orange box store that sells screwdrivers, etc. has a 2" wide utility belt that is all nylon and under a five spot. Fits the Tek LoK well. Near the section with the pouches, etc. I wear mine over whatever else I am wearing including my regular belt and adjust it to length.

On my BK2 I bought a ESEE MOLLE back for their 5/6 sheaths and it fits the BK2 hard plastic sheaths perfect. I use the lower half and stitched together a couple of straps and rigged up a drop-leg platform so I can wear it with a revolver on my hip. My BK9 I got an AZWelke sheath and I grabbed a random strap and carry it over the shoulder under my left arm (I'm right handed). I haven't carried the 10 or 7 yet but I'll probably rig up something like I have for my 2.

I use a 1.5" military type of belt for small or large knives for hip carry.
I usually have a gun on me so I don't notice a little extra weight.
If I'm hiking I carry large knives in my pack.
I always wear a mora in a neck sheath.

Carried on my hip with the provided belt loop or attached with a climbing carabiner to act as a dangler. I've dabbled with strapping my large knife to my pack, I don't like it. I like to keep it on me. Hip carry with a carabiner if you're worried about it getting in the way you can quickly unclip it and hold it. I do think a baldric would be a nice change.

I wear my BK2 in a psyops (Kelley Custom Leather) sheath. I got the bushcraft style. I wear a Wilderness Tactical Instructor 1.5" 5-stitch belt. On my strong side (left) I wear my Glock 19 in an M-Tech kydex holster and on my weak side (right) I wear my BK2. This a very balanced and comfortable way for me to carry. The right belt is important. I guess being a gun guy a 1lb knife never really felt very burdensome to me. For size reference I'm not a large man, only 6'0" and 185lbs...... OF STEELY BEEF! HA!

I use the factory sheath for all my larger Beckers and it seems to work just fine. Would a custom be better?? Almost undoubtedlty it would be but if it works I don't fix it unless I got some extra $$$...

I belt carry my BK9 with very little issue. The heft is only significant in the beginning as your body tries to adjust to the newfound weight, and complains about the change in balance. Give it a few days to break in and it suddenly becomes incredibly more comfortable and you'll barely even notice it.

Any tools that I'm using at the time are usually sticking out of my front pocket or just stuck into my pants. I just have a stock BK2 sheath but I just popped the strap off and slip it in my pocket. If I'm doing something where I'm worried about the knife falling out or getting lost I'll tether it to my pants somehow.

I carry my BK9 which I got 11/26/13 right in the factory issue sheath no problem.i have no problem what so-ever.i would love a Kydex sheath but for now the one that came with her is just fine.:-)

Same here, except for me it was 7/2/13.

When I'm hiking, I carry my 9 in the factory sheath. I use a keychain size carabiner and a small loop of paracord to clip the bottom of the sheath to my backpack's shoulder strap at the top. Then I run backpack's waist belt through the sheath's belt loop. Now my sheath is upside-down on my chest. This is a very handy way to carry it. As long as the snap loop stays snapped it stays in place. As soon as I unsnap the snap loop the 9 falls right into my hand.

When I'm around camp I just use the factory sheath on my belt.

Usually I carry my BK-2 in custom kydex sheath on Blackhawk belt. Little heavy on the first, but you get use to it after some time.

Thanks for the photo, rokclmb, I really like that setup. It doesn't look as unwieldy as the description alone might sound. Also gives me some ideas for a kydex setup as well.

I would love a kydex sheath that would work like this. As much as I like this way of carrying my 9, I'm always a little nervous that it's going to fall out. Having a kydex sheath that provided it's own retention in addition to the snap around the handle would be nice.
