How do you comfortably carry your fixed blades?

I totally prefer a fixed blade over a folder but realistically find them to be either uncomfortable, in the way or bumping into things like the seat when you sit down. Show off your techniques and rigs. I carry fixed blades image.jpga lot around the acreage but have not found an ideal way and usually carry a folder when I venture out. Ideally a 4” or so would be first choice.
Here is my latest attempt. School me

For me, a dangler works best. Specifically, a pancake kydex sheath with a Sagewood Gear dangler adapter worn at my 3:00 on my strong side. Sits below my belt line, doesn’t interfere with anything, easy to sit down with it and easily accessible. This method works well for me with small or large fixed blades. The beauty of this method for me is that it doesn’t interfere with my pistol draw, no matter how large the knife is. Also, front pocket is accessible for a folder, usually serrated. Between the fixed blade, the serrated folder and a SAK in my pack, I feel like I have most bases covered

5”blades and under I prefer horizontal with handle about 10’ 0’clock. Larger blades I like vertical just past 3 O’clock and big ones I like on a dangler. Horizontal is so convenient doing chores or riding ATV or operating dozer at the property and out of the way but accessible. Danglers allow for positioning when seated (most of the time for me anyway). I don’t like canted when worn in front if doing and sitting or bending.

I like a horizontal or canted belt sheath so I can draw the knife while I am driving and my wife wants to open an ebay package. Here is a Bradford Guardian 3 with a cheap Amazon sheath:

For better sheaths, look for Horsewright over in the Sheaths & Such forum.

A neck knife can also be convenient:

Thick, properly formed leather is my favorite material for sheaths. It just gives when needed and feels comfortable when done properly. This one by Lorien Arnold is the best quality leather sheath I have, which I carry IWB at 8 o'clock.

Frankly, if I can't have one of Lorien's sheaths, I prefer a deep pouch sheath that has been wet-formed around the knife. It's just simple, easy to draw and re-sheath, and generally out of the way.

👆 no pics in-use, but it's a simple and proven design that holds most knives tightly enough to avoid flopping around, but loose and deep enough to flex as you bend and prevent the pommel from digging into sides. Sometimes simplicity is the best route.

Small fixed blades usually get kydex + pull-the-dot straps for discrete horizontal carry.

Again, I'd rather have leather sheaths designed for horizontal use, but kydex is convenient and adaptable.

Most preferred are small of back and cross draw!! The first pic can be mounted many ways and works great. Second one is cross draw and SOB.....I prefer spine down, blade up when carrying a knife behind my back...
Definitely prefer the knife in line with my belt... Easier to conceal too! If you must...

There are a lot of guys making primo sheaths here!!! Have a look and reach out to one of them!!!

Have you tried the horizontal rig I did for you?
*I know it's a little Big, and that you were planning on pack carry, but I was just curious if you played with it?
I wore Yours for a couple days, scratching it all up....haha. I liked it 🤣

To the OP.....I did this mounting so you could set it up vertical, or horizontal carry, depending on what you want.

That is actually pretty comfortable, convenient. The next time I plan to use a knife for a few hours I will definitely carry horizontally / cross draw.

Doesn't get more comfy than that.

I have been making my own leather sheaths for many years but not in the horizontal configuration. I need to try that.
This is one that has been carried many a mile. Small enough to not present any problems but I would like to carry just a bit more blade.

Knock on wood not yet...although I carry more between 5-4:30 positions...... All depends what your daily rigors entails whether or not it will work for someone......

Or I can just say.stop laying down and it won't hurt..😉
