How do you feel about the CS Bush Ranger?

I’m contemplating picking up a new Bush Ranger G10. I like the looks of it and the brown contoured G10 seems like it would feel great in hand.

I’ve never owned a CS. So this would be my first. There appears to be some mixed feelings about CS so I was curious what people thought of the Bush Ranger. At $132 , I’m tempted.

In general, I find Cold Steel products to be well made and worth the asking price. And I feel like that is a common opinion.

I do have issues with their marketing and antics of their president Lynn Thompson. And I think that also is a common opinion.

The heavily fullered handles seem to get a staple status. I always hated them, while more or less liking the blade plattern in itself...
[I do have issues with their marketing and antics of their president Lynn Thompson. And I think that also is a common opinion.] I can also concur as a totally commoner. Isn't this a disgrace to the knife community ? )

Perhaps that’s what I have in my head (Lynn’s silly marketing ploys). But I’m still interested/curious about the knife. And I can’t think of another knife by any other manufacturer for under $150 that interests me.

I have not held the G10, but based on how much I like the half dozen CS knives I own, I say go for it. I have carried CS knives for 20+ years and have not been disappointed.

I have the CS Ultimate Hunter and Recon 1 (spear point). Great knives for the $. I don't hesitate to recommend CS knives to folks.

I'm not a fan of the marketing (rock music and pig stabbing) but they make good knives.

If you like it, go for it.

the vdo marketing appears to be subtle, not a loud in your face presentation and not at all highly fictional in nature...
the knife appeals to me but still not utterly convinced about the msrp :)

It's a thick, bulky knife meant for serious heavy duty work. I personally don't care for the thumb plate but it's a well made knife … no doubt about that. You might also consider checking out Cold Steel Recon 1 … its a bigger, flatter knife but Bush Ranger has a better grip.

I had one and wound up selling it. I didn't like that thumb disk or shelf or whatever that thing is, and I suddenly found the knife just not very appealing. not that its not made well, but I just didn't like it after a few days.I think the AD10 is much much better ..

That AD10 looks nice. It’s just so big.

I have the Ultimate Hunter, which is a heavy duty 3 1/2 inch blade knife that I use for work and edc. It is similar to the AD10 and Bush Ranger and I haven t thought about getting either of these. The UH is a fine knife.

AD-10 just stands out as the smoothest , slickest Cold Steel Tri-ad folder I've ever handled .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Highly recommended !

Back on track about the Bush Ranger, I have it and love it. Two things stand out for me: I bought it as a work knife for my construction site duties, not as a collector, a fidget gizmo or show piece. Had it about a year now and it is a great job site knife. Contouring of the G10 scales make it easy to hang onto when doing heavy cutting even with sweaty hands, and there is enough handle here even for my big mitts. It keeps a good edge and the blade shape has a strong point on it that is very useful. Disappears in my pocket, lays flat and stays in place when climbing around in attics, on roofs, scaffolds, etc. Didn't know what to think about the thumb plate, but I like it.

Second thing is that this is a working tool, so it certainly isn't for every one. No glamorous features on the knife, no pretty pocket clip, no colored pieces, no inlays, no fancy milling on the G10, it doesn't whip open with a hard flick of the wrist nor does it drop shut. It is a large, very useful work knife. It is in rotation with my ZT 0909 and CS Ultimate Hunter. Its appeal to me is its straight forward no frills design.

As far as LT's ad practices, not sure when he made the last meat cutting video, but they live in infamy HERE, and NOT ONE of my friends has ever seen one (nor do they care). But here, one mention of Cold Steel and the indignate disapproval, the whing, and snotty remarks start being part of the conversation, usually more than the knives themselves. People carry the hurt and pain they received from those videos for years and years. They just can't move on...

Buy the knife from an approved vendor, and if you don't like it, return it. That simple.

Personal preferences aside, it is a good tough knife and has a good handle shape to it ; if you buy it from a dealer check their return policy so if you don't like it you can return it. As for the videos and tests, it doesn't bother me a bit,at least their knives are available, reasonabley priced, and come super sharp out of the box, that's what matters most....

I love my Bush Ranger, and I have now carried it for my EDC "right hand" knife for about two weeks. I have a smaller Spyderco S30V folder with an edge at a more acute angle for detailed work.

Everything the guys here have reported is true. The only thing stronger than a Bush Ranger is a cement brick. I haven't even needed to touch up the edge, and I use an Edge Pro with a selection of +/-40 polishing stones if the whim hits me.

I paid 29 dollars for mine, but I was warned that the models sent overseas to foreign buyers get a more refined alloy at a higher price. I think I got a deal on an indestructible knife!

I've owned CS for 20+ years. Some of my favorite knives.

Their Triad Lock is second to none.

Should be a fantastic carry and user piece!

I carry quite a bit of $$$ in knives every day, and still make room for a CS folder in my pocket most days.

have the Chinese made version. the scale texture is a deal killer for me on carrying it. too rough and a pocket shredder. dont own the expensive version but if the g10 is like most cold steel textured g10 than something to consider if ya dont like pocket shredding.

other than that every cold steel I own came with decent edge and bevels some really good and pretty good fit and finish for what it is and the cost etc.
