How good is the B695 stainless steel for a knife blade?

And what it is good for? [survival, every day carry, general usage etc.]

I mean, there are a bunch of knife steels on the market. Each have different attributes, but which attribute is the most important for an EDC knife? Hardness? Edge retention? Is the B695 steel good enough for EDC?

Maybe my question is stupid, in that case, please enlight me.

Are you talking about Bohler N695?

Aaah, sorry. Yes... :D

So Bohler N695.
Makes a fine blade. It's nothing extraordinary by itself. In the ball park of 440C, VG10, 154cm.

I didn't realize until talking to Larrin Larrin that it had significantly more Cr than VG10 which clumps up the microstructure with more CrC

I had always thought of it as an analog to VG10 until I saw the Micrographs in Larrin's Article.

You’re thinking of N69. N695 is 440C. Bohler is not great at naming things.

If I understand it clearly, the Böhler N695 steel is totally equal with the 440C?
But I heard the N695 contains more carbon than the 440C.

Higher Max limit on Cr. Not my jam, larger structures, more RA, lower working hardness. Yuck city.

Not something I'd use for a knife.

Just too many other good steels to choose.

Of course good Geometry and HT go a long way, but hey it's 2019, we have lots of options these days :D

I don't think the zknives app is correct on allowable ranges for n695. Bohler just shows the target composition.
