How many knives do you own? Are you a collector or just addicted to buying knives?

Just wondering how many knives you guys and gals own. I've bought ten in the last 2 months and sold five. I own 20 knives at present. My favorite fixed is my KA-BAR, folder is my benchmade mel pardue and my Blur. Favorite tactical at the moment is my emerson wave CQC. Favorite neck knife is the Schrade mini karambit.

Tell me of your collection. Just want to make sure I'm not the only one obsessed with knives.

Technically I own about 110 plus some random little stuff I can't find or think of. I have less than 20 users / knives worth using and the rest are all flea market specials that I collect as novelties. I guess I'd have to say that I have about 20 knives and 90+ novelties ( if it's not worth using it's not a real knife )

You're definitely not the only one.

When their only 5$ it's easy to own a bunch of them, especially when there's such a variety.
Most of them were ones my dad bought me off of cutlery corner when I was a teenager and the rest from store that was 500ft from my house ( I'd pretty much find something new a few times a month ) which grew from a permanent flea market booth to the addition of an actual store.

I own exactly 4 knives at the moment, and depending on the minute I can be all or none of the above...

Point is, this hobby for me has been an evolution of sorts that gets to a point and then heads in another direction...confusing, I know, I am confused about it sometimes as well!

I have bought one knife this week and sold 5, but my general trend is that of knives increasing...
Right now I sit at 116 (I just counted lol), which doesn't include kitchen knives. It also doesn't count the handful of knives that are dismantled on my workbench waiting for new covers, scales, or handles:)

last time i counted.... lets just say i could carry a knife everyday for the next two years, and not carry the same knife twice. i collect some, 90% have been used at some point. it ranges from 50 cent flea market finds to well into the hundreds with the majority on the cheaper end.

I don't collect knives but I definitely have been accumulating them at a pretty regular pace in the last 10 years. Don't know how many, but a conservative estimate would be 10 yrs x 10 blades/yr = 100. They pile up pretty quick if you don't sell them.

What's the difference between a "collector" and one who is "just addicted to buying knives"?

A "collector" usually has some sort of a direction in his mind, his path may vary as he discovers new things. A guy that collects WWII bayonets may find interest in Vietnam era Randalls or Gerber MK IIs and have a few of them and some other stuff that may not fit his main collection. An accumulator just buys stuff that he likes with no real direction other than personal likes. A collector almost never "uses" the items from his collection, sure that Colt SAA collector may have a few low end new guns (post war) that he takes to the range from time to time, he will have a slew of nice rifles and shotguns and other non Colt handguns for shooting, his high end high condition pieces are investments that are just for looking at.

For a long time I had well over 300 knives mostly old pre-war pocket knives with a few razors and fixed blades. My main focus was on the German made Boker Tree Brand. Back when Ebay first started my rule was any vintage Boker under $20, I got a ton of great knives until ebay got big and there was no such thing as a $20 good condition vintage Boker. Today I keep my accumulation of edged tools under 100, I just sold off about 50 pieces two weeks ago and have since bought 3 new ones. In another year I will have another sell off and so it continues.

I have around 100 in the "collection", and a few other users. The collection is about 95% fixed blades, while the users are folders.

I'm around only 25. I guess I fall in the accumulator group as I'm not buying for value and I'm not buying a single given trend. Mostly what is unique and interesting or a great bang for the buck. I'm more likely to go browsing and find something I didn't know I wanted until I see it and like it.

I have one. With 4 on the way, of which I will probably keep one, but maybe two. And there is a third that I have sights set on soon.

I don't know what that means. Are these all the same basic knife model? Are you saying you're a knife collector?

I guess I'm sicker than I thought, :o; I have around 375. The fact is, I'm blessed with the availability of funds over the last 30 or so years to purchase a wide variety. There are soooo many variations of size, style, steel type, handle material, on and on. I also love the hunt and the anticipation of arrival. My wife (of 34 years-God bless her) says a man needs a hobby; mine is knives (well, it is now, it was firearms, then swords). I've seen collections of many hundreds of axes, cars, etc. To some of us here a knife is just a tool and a few suffice; I'm not one of them (obviously). :D

25 or so but only EDC about 4 of them in my rotation.
If my autos were legal here, that number would go up.
