for an M2? I was having a debate with a coworker over how much they cost.

The military probably gets a much better deal, but for civilians .50 BMG runs about $2-3 a round for the good stuff. Goes lower if buy in quantity.

EDIT: This is for the whole cartridge. Haven't looked into bullets.

i know a few yrs ago my bud was paying about $3.50 to $4.00 a round for good ammo, he has the barrett .50 auto, i guess the price has gone down a little bit. neat guns, not really good for much, but neat nonetheless.

oh they are great for shooting soft skinned vehicles at 2000 meters but i rarely have to do that anymore lol.

i was suprised it had less recoil than i was expecting, wonder if a non-auto is any worse, always wanted to see but not too many folks have a .50 to try, i guess i was lucky to be able to shoot my buds, havent ever seen another at the range/etc,

For civilians, in times past I have seen them for as little as $1 a round when bought in full case (think it was 100 round case but, might have been 200 rounds). New production IMI runs ~$2.50-3.00 a round last time I checked. Hornady Amax was about $5 a round but, I haven't looked for that in a long time.

Since it is an M2, you aren't shooting match ammo so it is cheaper then the stuff 1000 yard benchrest folks use which seems to run from $4 to $8 a round. Raufoss is very expensive in the civilian marketplace because it is really a military only round with the explosive tip but, for a time I could locate them for $25 a round for the cartridge collectors.

For the military price, you could probably look it up in a federal register somewhere.

I have shot a Serbu and in the prone it had less felt recoil than 12g slugs, not a bad shooter

i've only every fired .5 rounds when it was mounted on an APC
but the recoil seemed quite high
you guys don't feel it?

I had one mounted on my deuce & a half, recoil was no problem...finding opportunities to use it was! (If you want free 50 cal ammo, dredge any creek on Fort Bragg, the 'other' ammo dump...so I've heard...)

oh ya feel it for sure lol, but its not as bad as expected, imho about like a 12 gauge 3" mag outta a pump, bad but not unbearable, the barret is pretty heavy (IIRC about 25 lbs) and gas operated so that helps some i guess. but i have shot some big rifles (ie 300 win mag, 300 H&H, 375 H&H, 416 rem mag, etc) and i thought they were more difficult to handle than the .50, my buds 416 rem mag carbine just kills ya, short bbl, light weight, bolt action, not something ya wanna "plink" with lol..
