I have a crazy English friend who just sent me a housewarming present. The present? A case of scotch.

So how much scotch in a case? Also, is it any good? I like bourbon and Irish Whiskey but I can't remember ever having Scotch.

What kind of scotch?

I think a case is usually 12 bottles, but I can't remember. It all gets VERY blurry around bottle number 3.

There are many kinds of scotch, and quality runs from sublime to almost undrinkable. I'd say you have a very generous friend, even without knowing what kind you were sent!

Some people consider scotch an acquired taste. You know, I'm a giver, so you could send it to me to sample, and I'll tell you how good it is! :D

(Just kidding...or am I?)

His family is in Swiss banking, called me from Mallorca. I'm betting this stuff is pretty good quality.

It will probably be Single Malt. You won't like it. Vile stuff. Send it to me and I will arrange proper disposal.

That's really too much for one person to safely handle for proper disposal. Better send half of it to me.

Scotch swings wildly in flavor - from deep, peaty malts that taste like liquid smoke, to more subtle highland malts where you can pick out a lot of buried flavors. The only way to get a feel for what you like is to taste a lot of them, and yes they can tend to be an acquired taste, but since you're already a whiskey drinker you're well on your way.

Unfortunately, I've tasted lots of scotches, but rarely remember which I had by the time morning rolls around, so I end up often going back to the "popular" brands like glenlivet and glenfiddich, simply because I actually remember what they taste like.

And occasionally I even settle for a blended scotch

Great pic. Does look like tasty stuff.

I visited the Jameson distillery in Dublin a few years ago. They explained the differences between American, Irish, and Scottish whiskey. But then they had a tasting session and I forgot it all.

We'll see what it is when it gets here. Might have to do a giveaway, sounds like a lot of booze.

Assuming they are the standard 750ml bottles, there are twelve to a case.

Asking if the scotch is any good, without knowing anything else, is like saying: "my friend sent me a car. I'm used to riding bicycles, so I don't know about this. Is a car any good?"

There is almost as much variety among scotches as there is among makes of cars. Some are junkers, some sublime.

I'm sure Jerry would drink it and be glad to tell you about what he remembers about it after he wakes up from the blackout. ;)

A case??

I think you'll be just about ready for Blade next year....

You'll have a lot of friends fo sho.... ;)
