How Much Would You Pay for a Quality Folder

Well, several of you have written about the Victorinox Soldier in the past and it just so happened that I was looking for an EDC that had a cap lifter. I already had the Victorinox Ranger which is great but altogether too large for comfy carry so I thought I'd give the Soldier a try.
Called up 1 Stop Knife Shop and ordered one about 2 weeks ago. It was on back order so I just sat back and waited.
Well, the Brown Truck dropped off a box yesterday from 1 Stop and I eagerly tore into the package.
I really wasn't prepared for this knife. I mean, I only paid $18 for it. With shipping, a whole $23.
My first glance of it indicated a quality piece of cutlery. By now, you all know about the quality of the tools: Main spearpoint blade, combo caplifter/screwdriver/wire stripper, combo small screwdriver/can opener, and awl.
The Main Blade is slightly different than other Victorinox main blades I'd had experience with. It tapers out (in width) toward the belly, and then slims down back to the tip. It sorta looks like a micro-chopper. I think I'll come to appreciate this design after some use. Also, the main blade is canted so when it's folded, it fits between the awl on one side and the other two screwdriver blades on the other side. Very slick design, making for an overall slimmer package.
Externally, the "cross-hatched" aluminum scales are gorgeous. Finish of the scales is perfect. I never thought I'd like the looks of an aluminum handled knife this much. The Swiss Cross seems to be cut directly into the handle slab and anodized red. Again, very slick. Turning the knife to the back spring side you notice the virtually perfect fit and finish of the springs to the handle slabs. Action of all the tools is smooth and just right with respect to spring tension. There are 3 pins on each side of the knife, pivot on each end and pivot for the springs. Again, nicely finished and matched to the aluminum handles. Overall, the tools fold into the handle with only the minimum amount sticking out with their nail nicks. The ends are beautifully rounded, and the whole package is neither too thick nor too thin. There's no key-ring on it to get in the way of its clean lines. It's also just the right weight to disappear into your pocket due to the alumium handle's weight.
Overall, I'd say someone at Victorinox screwed up when they priced this knife. This thing puts to shame many other folders costing 5 times as much. Unbelievable! Yeah, I love it! Weird considering that it's by far the least expensive knife I own.
I'm hoping Victorinox will expand this line to give a slightly greater tool choice in the same package.
Anybody else have one of these and love it as much as I do?

Lenny, you may wish to search both this forum's both the Blade Discussion Forum's Archives. As a starter please, take a look at
http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002647.html
A lot of people - including myself - think that Victorinox makes a great job.
And actually Victorinox does have extended this line with more tool choice in similar package.
Look at for example at http:/www.swiss-knife.com
Go to the search function, choose advanced search and search for Victorinox AND silver alox handle. You will find the Pioneer line, go to purchase and you will see both the pictures both the prices in US $. After that you can cancel the purchase by putting 0 in the No. of knives bought, so you actually do not purchase anything, just get the information needed. Don't be shocked by the low prices, they are really much cheaper than you can find from almost any US dealer. A lot of people have excellent experience with this dealer, just search on the forums. That's how I learned about them too. They ship in the US, you may find out the final prices including shipping cost the same way as for the knives themselves. Take a look at their other products too. They keep a lot of Victorinox models not sold in the US. As general their prices are cheaper but for some knives you may find better prices from US retailers.
P.S.: The Victorinox Soldier is my EDC and one of my favourite knives too.

No more than $1000....thats my limit!!

IF I felt the knife would retain it's value or increase in value over time, I would spend about as much as the top knifemakers charge for their high-end pieces..... BTW I would never use this knife.

I'd pay no more than $400 for a quality hand made folder.

However my SOG Mini Outdoor Auto Clip folder with a drop point blade is really all the folder I need, and it cost under $30!

Other than littleknife are you guys missing the point of my original post or am I just missing your sarcasm?
My brain does go on long breaks once in a while.
Doh!!!

I understand your post, but I thought I'd follow along and respond to the title, not the article. I really don't have much experience with SAKs, so I didn't respond to your posting.

Top whack? $600 or so. Not that I can afford that right now...
