How old is my "Barlow" Case knife?

I have received a knife from a family estate that I was told once belonged to my father. I would like to find some info on it from any of the Case XX experts out there.

It is a "Barlow" style, two bladed, the large blade is marked "CASE XX", with USA immediately under it. There are eight (8) dots under that.

On the other side of the blade is "62009 1/2". There are no markings on the other, smaller blade.

On the bolster, it is marked "CASE XX" and it has been engraved with our family last name. Crudely, I might add, which, if there were any collectible value at all, certainly destroyed that. It has immense personal sentimental value to me, though, as I was away from my father for many years due to my service and travels.

I suspect it is probably not more than 20 or so years old, but any info would be appreciated.

Sonny, I don't have any info for you, but hang tight.
A moderator should be along shortly to move this thread to Bernard Levine's forum. I'm sure someone there will have some answers for you.

Welcome,

Eight dots under USA indicate a knife made in 1972, Case knives from 1970 have 10 dots, from 1971 9 dots, etc., in 1980 they started again with 10 dots over USA.

Edited, found this link with some more info on Case tang markings:

SonnyH,
Just to add a bit to what Luis has told you...
62009 1/2
6 means it is bone, or possibly Delrin (Rough Black)
2 means it has 2 blades
0 in the middle means a change from the norm
09 is the pattern number (Barlow)
1/2 means a clip master blade. That is the change (0) on yours. A clip rather than a spear master blade.

I think I found a home. I hadn't expected such gracious replies and even got one "welcome" reply.

Thanks to all. I see my knife is a little older than I thought and that tells me that my father probably purchased and used it about the same time I had my first child.

Funny how small things like that can mean so much, especially to an old hard-hearted retired fart like me.

I think I'll make a gift of the knife to my oldest son.

Thanks again to all. You guys are a class act.

This place does get addicting! I just joined in January and I'm already to 366 posts! Burning up the keyboard. That will make a great gift, I'm sure he will enjoy it, I know I would! :D
