Hey peoples,

I need some advice on cleaning out my leatherman MT, the fine blade is sticking a little bit. I see a little surface rust here and there.

These are your two best friends when it comes to cleaning a multitool:

Hot water & soap bath, hair blower to dry off, then rem oil. Works for me.

I used my ST300 sunday before last to get a hunk of gunk out of my shower drain, it was real nasty so I gave it a bath in hot water, dried it off, soaked it in WD-40 and took a Q-tip and cleaned out all the small areas, wiped excess WD-40 with a paper towel and she was as good as new.

Ditto everything. Except I use a heat gun (very carefully) to hasten the drying process.

WD40 works great for cleaning, but be sure to get nearly every last stitch of the stuff outta the works when you're done; it attracts gunk like a magnet, in my experience. If you can avoid it (or eliminate most of it after using it to clean), I think you're better off lubing with 3-in-1 or similar oil/lubricant.

I keep my old tooth brushes :) They work great at getting gunk and funk outta the joints of my MTs. Hot soapy watter and a dab of mineral oil is what I use.

Just for suggestion, for the hard to get to joint area, some unwaxed flossing could also help.:)

Brake parts cleaner is the best I have tried since it evaporated very quick.

Funny, I never think to clean my Leatherman much past just wiping it off when I'm done. Never had a problem with it but since it's an old Supertool it comes apart very easily.
