How should Collector Knives sell GEC SFO's

Yes, I am guilty also.

Its just that all the early reserves are closed by the time I hear about them!

Cant understand why no 77's scheduled in stag pr jigged bone. Those are my faves along with ironwood.

I still need a stag 5 blade Pathfinder from GEC, even if it costs 250 bucks!

Minimum 100 per handle, Maximum 500 knives, kinda limits the slabs. But to be honest, they may just start being ONE Handle material so it will make it a lot easier.

I have been thinking about that since yesterday - but the infrastructure for that would be crazy for 500 knives and take months to develop and test. Wish there was a website that would let you build a matrix; let you turn loose folks putting their name in a square; then drawing the 500 squares that make it. [without people getting 20 squares or some other kind of craziness]

Not to be the resident math nerd, but this free website lets you generate truly random lists for free, up to 10,000 names or numbers.

https://www.random.org/lists/

A little extra work for you CK, but not that much since all u have to do is copy and paste the list each of 100 or 500 names in the box and it generates a random ordered list.

It also appears you can set up a lottery or drawing but not sure what that entails. Neat web tools! For $4.95 they will do a thrid party drawing for up to 500 names!

Buckshack-

We dont actually want any Barlow 77's, we are mostly russian bots just creating havoc in the slip joint market place as practice for taking over world.

You can only get one if you dont already own a 77 barlow. Solved....for me anyway :)
That would kinda punish people who were supporting this whole venture years ago, no? :)

Towards Mike's comments, one cover option does help the masses a bit as collectors really only need one example (same as users) and then there's more to go around. I assume it would also be easier for distribution.

You wouldn't believe me if I told you....
I don't have any idea what I am going to do - servers just can't handle the craziness that is going to eventually happen...
Make a separate early reserve page for each cover choice and limit 1 knife per customer. Possibly introduce each choice on different days.

Looks like selling knives is becoming like mining for Bitcoins:eek::D:D

The only answer is to give em all away here:D

Good luck before the deluge...;)

Thanks, Will

That is a good idea. It would frustrate more than a few if I did that this time - but going forward that may be the solution for the very high demand items.
Many thanks!!!

I guess I wasn’t the only one leaving the reserve site on my phone and randomly refreshing it. Would it still crash the server if there was only one choice for reserve but then give people their choice of cover in the order that they reserved? I for one would be very happy to have whichever one was left if I was lower on the list.

A filter that would take a name as a place holder, then eliminate all those that have not purchased when they committed to "sure" in the past, then the filter should prioritize your clients that would like to purchase one in descending order of total value purchased from CollectorKnives.net. limit to one a piece. Spend more dough at CK.net and you get a higher priority for future sfos. Of course no filter system could be so perfect.....

There are a couple of popular gadget makers that use signupsale.com with what appears to be ease & sucess. You can even limit the time the sale is open. With 500 lottery winners, its going to be some work to figure out 4 options to select from though.

That might be a good idea going forward...two choices of 250 apiece. Limit the knives to one pair per customer and just drop the early reserve at the time of your choosing, with no warning.
I think what made this one different was that GEC released the production schedule before you could put out the ER notice, leading to the mob at your virtual door!

It is a recurring question. I'm not certain there is a good answer when there is significantly more demand than there is stock to satisfy it.

Personally, I think a lottery would work to flatten the playing field, but I also think there would be many unhappy customers if Mike implemented that.

Catering to existing customers doesn’t help you bring in new ones very easily. Lots of people would consistently be at the bottom. Even a buyer who has been a good customer can be pushed to the bottom because they don’t buy a knife from every single run GEC is putting out or buying the other knives on the site due to their style or brand.

With GEC limiting the number of SFO’s per order, I think going to one cover option is a good idea. If Mike wanted to cater to the buyers, he could put a poll on his site for people to vote for the cover material of their choice. Winning one gets made. It would create discussion and make it fun for people. Much like the voting for the annual forum knife is.

Not sure I understand Mike why you keep putting yourself through all this. You're a better person that I am. If it were me I'd simply put them on my site. People would find them and buy them. When they're gone they're gone. Simple as that.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of things I don't understand when it comes to Great Eastern Cutlery...

Just my two cents.
