How to do Google Discussion Search, now that it has been disabled...

I hope this is ok to post.

This was my favorite part of Google, since you could skip over many of the commerce sites and go to actual content. Google disabled the "filter" feature, months ago. Now they have killed the workaround.

This seems to work in Chrome:

[type your search text here] intext:forum "post"|inurl:forum|"posts:"|inurl:viewtopic

Here is an example looking for the word "lionsteel" in forums: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=+lionsteel+intext:forum+%22post%22%7Cinurl:forum%7C%22posts:%22%7Cinurl:viewtopic&safe=off

I just bookmarked a google page after searching for "intext:forum "post"|inurl:forum|"posts:"|inurl:viewtopic" - now I can just type my search term at the beginning of the Google search box.

Hope this helps someone.

When I want to search a forum, I do the following (using lionsteel on bladeforums.com as an example, as per yours):

In the dedicated Google search box or a general-purpose field atop Chrome pages, I type

lionsteel site:bladeforums.com

(My search terms are usually more specific, but you get the idea.)

What is the advantage of your method/string above?

(Genuinely curious-- I am always trying to refine my searches. :))

The difference is Scotchleaf's method gets results from all forum websites, not just one website.

I saw that, but was wondering if there was more to it than that.

My searches tend to be more targeted, ie, forum-specific.

(Thanks.)

I find that the information in forums is usually so much better than what Google wants to send users to.
