My tenacious has vertical play and lock rock. I am thinking of taking it apart and hammer the springy part of the lock in hope that it will get taller(for lack of better term) and eliminate the lock rock and make for an earlier lock up. If you think of something better let me know.

Theres two ways to do it. Peening the lockbar, like you're talking about already. Or by sending it to a machinest and having them make a slightly larger diameter stop pin. If you do decide to peen it with a hammer please let me know how it works im curious. Be careful of the ball detent though!

Do the first trick and loosen all the screws. Hold the knife tight in your hand. Smack the lock side from the base torward the pivot to jar things upward. In your case, its bad and a cheap knife anyway, use the rubber mallet and hold that pressure with your hand as you do it. Tighten back up while holding the liner sad with as much force as possible to slide it up for lesser lock up. And you will get some more time out of your knife.

I love when somebody sends me a knife with bad lock up or if they put it together wrong and fudged something up. I love solving mysteries.

Somitemes the screws just need to be tightened up. You can always send it to Spyderco.
