like this one How do you attach the bone to the leather and also how do you shape the antler to fit the blade there is not much I can find on this style of sheath online.

Hi FarmerJohn,
Look up a book by Bo Bergman, its called "Knifemaking, A Complete Guide To Crafting Knives, Handles, & Sheaths"

It is an excellent source for Scandi knife and sheath making and he does have a rather extensive section on antler and wood sheaths.

This is the best book I have seen yet for this subject.

As far as how the leather is attached to the antler, theres several ways that Bo tells about. The sheath pictured has two pins carved into the antler section on each side, you can see them poking out there. The leather is wet wrapped and stitched onto the antler section, as it dries it shrinks down around the lower part of the sheath locking it in place.

The other method is carving a "bump" all round the antler or wood part of the sheath and molding the leather around that, locking it in place.

I'll thumb through the book today and see if I missed any info. :)

I didn't realize he had one on just sheaths! :) I will have to look for that one!

I JUST checked that knife out of the library again before starting a handling project this weekend!

Wouldn't it be sweet if you could just check out a knife for a few days and return it? It would save shipping and purchasing costs immensely. ;)

Sorry TF, I had to. :p Anyhow, that book is so good I had to go ahead and buy it, I tend to refer to it quite often.
