I'm getting ready to sell some video games on Ebay, and I'm just curious as to the best way to package them for shipping. They come in the DVD style boxes, as well as the regular cd style cases. Thanks ahead for any info.

DVD-style black plastic cases can just be put into a padded envelope and sent.

CD-style "jewel boxes" are very brittle and will need to be put into a small cardboard box with a few packing curls or even loosely-crumpled newpaper, but don't pack to tightly or, if the box is at all crushed, the jewel box will be broken.

You nailed that one right on the head, Gollnick. In my experience, no matter how well you pad jewel boxes, though, they'll probably get busted up (or at least cracked). Not to worry - replacement jewel boxes are pretty cheap.

Yeah, but I've noted when buying CDs on E-Bay that the sellers always have some negative feedbacks and, when you look to see what they are, it's buyers complaining about "the jewel box was broken." Oh come on?!? Jewel boxes shatter if you look at them to intensely. I would never give a seller a negative for that. Besides, as you say, jewel boxes are a dime-a-dozen (well, maybe a buck a dozen) at any office supply store.

But, if you are a seller, I'd advise packing well and adding some verbiage to your auction like, "The Jewel Box is fine right now and I will pack reasonably. But Jewel Boxes shatter if you look at them to intensely, so I can not guarantee that the jewel box will arrive in perfect condition. I'll try, but please don't give me a negative feedback if the jewel box gets broken."

If I mail CDs that I've burned myself (photos, documents, etc.), I just do the padded envelopes since the CDs themselves have no value and can easily be replaced.

But for commercial CDs, I'd mail them in a small box with padding.

If the package is handled roughly enough to break the jem case, the CD could easily be ruined also.

Back when I had dial up, I used to trade live shows in the mail all the time. I sent and received tons of CD's and DVD's in the padded envelopes. Never had one break. Of course I never sent jewel cases. If you're selling something with a jewel case I'd suggest taking the inserts out of the case and just mailing them with the disc. That way the person who buys them can just put the inserts in their own jewel case if they wish and you don't have to worry about them breaking.
