I think I am gonna try and paint the scales on an Ontario Rat 1 folder. They are pretty well textured in that they have semi deep grooves. What do you think would be the best to use? I'm thinking either krylon fusion or dura coat?

Those handles are FRN [high tensile-strength plastic], not G-10.

No matter what you paint them with, the corners and peaks will show through in no time. Any paint worth anything usually involves a baking process to adhere it to the surface of whatever you're painting. Baking FRN at any temp is a no-no.

Clean them, primer once or twice, then apply spray paint or whatever you're using.

Try using Rit Dye. It works great on any and all FRN and some G-10 materials. Many people have dyed the foliage green Spyderco's to look black, the dye holds up extrordinarily well. Save the paint for your house or car.

You can dye BLACK G10 to any other color?!

I have tried many paints on my G10=handled Bark River, bumble bee,,, none of them stand the test of time and quickly wear off,,, suggest getting what color you want from the maker,, cause you will not be satisfied with any paint you put on if you are going to use the knife,:(

Nutnfancy duracoated his rat 1 folder perfectly fine and from what I have seen in later videos it has worked and held up perfectly fine. Search fr his video on YouTube and see if you'd be into that

The RAT-1 Folder uses FRN scales not G-10. Two different materials.
