Hey guys, need some help, I ordered a Hinderer MP-1, all the screws were loose out of the box, I went to tighten each one, I know I didnt over tighten, I had some high end productions so I know the drill, but this one screw on the scale just broke off, I dont live in the States so sending it in is not a choice for me, I also never use loctite, is there a way to remove this screw, I already ordered a complete set of scale screws, so my only concern is the Ti scale,

Thanks guys

Would screwing a long screw with the same size but from the other side work? I still can take apart the knife

Take the other handle screws out and remove the handle. The handle should come right off if the screw head is gone. Remove the broken screw(it should be sticking up) with vise grip pliers.

if there is no loktite, and you can get the scale off, you might be able to glue a screwdriver bit to the end of the screw with something like jbweld. the main thing would be to do everything perfectly, and make sure no compound got onto the knife itself, so some masking might be needed.

People with no mechanical aptitude often suggest gluing stuff with JB Weld.
What you suggested would not work for an instant!

Tell the world how you really feel. I could make the same comment of anyone recommending vice-grips for any job. :)
As a method, its been done, just needs a lot of care and attention to detail. Lets just say that both methods could go horribly wrong, and both have been used successfully. Just trying to provide another option. No need to chew on me for it.

You could make the same comment- but you would be making it to someone who restores cutlery for a living.
I'm a factory-authorized repair center for Colonial, Hubertus, Schrade (all incarnations), Latama, Mauro Mario, Grafrath, Kuno Ritter, Venier (Lepre). KaBar also recommends me for repairs.
What are your qualifications?

Hi, glue seems like extra work :)

Don't know the size of the screw but you could drill the screw with a drill press then use an easyout to unscrew it.

Best thing would be vice grips. If that doesn't work, use a Dremel to cut a small slot for a flat bladed screwdriver.

Done the Dremel thing before. The slot worked better than the original indentation in the screw head so I kept it like that even if it looks like a hack job.

Bill is absolutely correct on this... Totally agree!

I just had this happen to me on my Benchmade mini grip. I got a drill bit about the size of the screw shaft and drilled down until I was able to break the head off. Then removed the scale and removed the rest with pliers.

The slotting method would have worked for that too, but your way works also. Your way is better for those not very steady with their slotting also - less chance of damaging the handle scale.

The absolute best advice in this thread.

I don't restore knives or build very many any more. But I've learned know enough to listen to Bill's advice.
