Hey guys,

I just received a sharpening stone I just ordered. It is the "Smith's SK2-2 Stone Sharpening Kit." Has anyone ever used these before? It comes with a Medium stone and a fine stone for $13.95 (on amazon). I'm a beginner when it comes to sharpening and I've never done it myself before. Any tips/hints on how to use these stones? Or does anyone know of a good video that shows how to use them properly? I've watched videos and read tips on it from similar stones, I just want to make sure that I do it correctly.

Thanks for any help/advice.

I have the same kit. I only used the small one, as it's finer and didn't have use for the rougher one.
Just use it as you would use any other stone. There are plenty videos on the internet about that, and this here is the best place to look for info on that matter, as it is highly discussed most of the time.
Those stones are good for plain carbon steel, or simple stainless like 420HC, 12c27. They are not really intended for the super steels available today.
This video is one of the best in my opinion : http://youtu.be/SEMLu8e34ck

You can use the oil with it or water. Mark you knife's bevel with a sharpie and you will be able to see where you are hitting on the stone.

Thanks guys. Will these stones work well for my new Rajah 3? I'm going to practice with my older/less expensive knives until I get it down well enough. I just don't want to scratch up/screw up my Rajah.
