I have been cutting my finger nails with the scissors on my Swiss army knife. Mistake. They have become sprung and very dull. Kind of like me. How best to sharpen them?

To sharpen any scissor properly, you need a jig to hold it to the correct angle while sharpening on a wheel or stone.

There a few "Gadget" scissor sharpeners that will help clean up a edge but won't reset a edge.

the spyderco sharpmaker is also designed for scissors. One of the stones can go in the end for a much shallower angle for sharpening shears, tin snips and scissors as well as many other things

I sharpen scissors freehand, it's just like any chisel edge only the angle is wider. Be careful with the back of the edge, keep it flat, just remove the burr. Some scissors are actually a lot of fun to sharpen, a friend of mine is a clothing designer and has some very nice German ones that are easy to take apart to sharpen each blade individually (she also has some made by KAI).

NEVER sharpen the interior edge or face of the blades unless removing inward-rolled dings or deburring (which should be done with a very fine stone.) Other than that it's like Franciscomv says above--it's a lot like sharpening a really obtuse-angled chisel.

I do agree that scissors can be sharpened on a stone by hand.

Few have the knowledge and patience to do it correctly.
I get Home sharpened scissiors that come into my shop that are ruined by people rolling over the bevel and as Fortytwo mentioned ground up on the inside flats.
So unless you are a competent chisel grind sharpener?
I recommend finding someone who is, or you can ruin them.
