How to spot a knockoff benchmade?

Just picked up a 940-1 on ebay and believe it to be a legit benchmade, but curious what to look for if it were a knockoff? Came with original benchmade box and baggie, looks 100% the same compared to my other 940 and 943 even down to the marking and butterly logo on the blade. Just want to be completely sure I didn't get ripped

Forgive me if this seems dickish, but I would never advise purchasing any knife on eBay. Just asking for trouble usually. There are plenty of legitimate sites (knifecenter, bladehq, knifeworks to name a few) that you can buy a quality knife for less than msrp. Also obviously the exchange on here

No offense, but ebay is absolutely a genuine site to buy knives from if you take the slightest bit of caution. Lots of legitimate knife sites even sell on there.

If you're smart you can score amazing deals. And buyer protection means if you do get a fake you can get your money back.

I got a full size crooked river for 150 bucks. Blade was oversharpened and a scale was cracked and Benchmade took care of me. So I have a better than new Crooked river for 150. Thanks ebay and Benchmade!

All my eBay bought knives are genuine. Just have to be careful.

You learn something new every day. I’ve always steered clear after hearing some horror stories

My ebay Crooked River. I know it's real because Benchmade didn't destroy it :D

only counting benchmades, i’ve gotten a 490, 698, 890, 580, and a 10750 off the bay with no issues. like the others said check the seller’s record, look at the pictures they put up really well, & research what you’re wanting to buy well enough to know what to look for.

Make sure the box has a date on it . At first when benchmade change to new box it didn’t have a date of manufacture but they change that and almost all their boxes have dates now . I have seen some Bugout that are fake the box don’t have dates on it. You might find a few early new box 20cv griptilian that don’t have dates on them but that changed . How long ago did they start this practice? Because of the 4 Contegos I have (born dates 2017, 18 and 20) I have one that does not have a date on it and I got it from BladeHQ along time ago.

I wonder if the one I got from BladeHQ that sat in a gun safe is just an older one then since the Contego was released in late 2012 and the 2 knife works exclusives were dated 2017 and 2018.
