Hi,

I'm going to attempt to rescale an old Imperial MOT slip joint. I will be using deer antler. But I need to straighten it. I looked in the sticky above and the link to Straightening Antler 101 is dead.:(

I understand that I need to boil the antler to soften it. But, I'm wondering about jigging and then possibly stabilizing it to hold it's shape. Tips, cautions, and guffaws welcome!

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks! Wish the pictures were still there. I will saw out the section I want. Then, should I straighten it first. Or should I split it into slabs than straighten? Or should I straighten the section, then slab and then restraighten?

thanks!

I would make my slabs over size then straighten, after drying I would grind down close to finish size and let sit for at least a few days and then check for straightness. and correct/finish

Hi,

Thank you very much! I think I understand it well enough to try it now.

Thanks!
