How to tie a square sinnet lanyard.

Eich1911, that was a really classy explanation and great pictures. When I was a kid, we used to do those with plastic lanyard, and called them the "box" and "barrel". Now if we can describe the "cobra" which should look good on my Buck/Strider folder ...

Excellent "how to" post! Good clear pictures too.

Got a couple of knives where I want something a little fancier than a simple coil knot and this will work great.

Cheers

Heh, I remember doing that at day camp when I was a kid, with those plastic lanyards! I was in NJ, no less, wonder if we were camp mates :)

Eich: fantastic explanation! Thanks for the pics and very clear instructions.

Joe, I was a NYC kid at the time, but we got bussed to NJ for camp -- Knights Day Camp. That was in the mid 50's.

I have a box of about a dozen of those plastic lanyards somewhere, but not from the old days. These are new, with some "earth" colors and some dayglo.

The best lanyards weren't all plastic. They were thin cord with a plastic surface, and you could tear the skin off your fingers pulling the knots tight. The lanyards we tied with them would last forever.

Me too! I went to day camp in NJ as well - Country Day Camp in the 60's. I've heard of Knight's Day Camp I think I had friends go there.

I remember the plastic lanyards...they had a clip for your keys or something like that. I remember the Cobra as well. Kinda like a flat spiral...

Yes, we used a tiny kind of snap clip. Later on I used small split rings. If you made a real long one, and bent the tail around and made a turk's head to go around the end, you would have a loop to hang around your neck, and the clip would hold a coach's whistle.

the word is "boondoggle"

Eich = nice pics! Now how come those khuk pics don't come out that good? :p :D ;)

Suggestions: If you want to do this on a Sebenza or many other knvies with a lanyard hole designed for one starnd of 550, try this. Scootch about 3 inches of the interior 7 strands (white) nylon out of the leading edge that you want to go back through the hole. Burn the thin end and squeeze it to a point while hot. Maybe trim it to a point is better. Push it back through with a needle, ink pen or even the little hex wrench that comes with the Sebenza. Works great.

Plan B is worse. push the line almost all the way through. Do the hollowed out trick on BOTH ends. Crazy glue the lead end back to the line starting line just passed through. Now you have the chance to pull the loop back through. It works, but be careful. Of course, you get rid of the crazy glued and thinned ends.

Pen, man there you go baggin on my pictures!!!! :) :)
I dont knon, one day I will have a good camera and post real good pictures!

Esav,

Kyle, I just want to thank you for teaching us that neat little trick which I actually tried yesterday and it turned out beautifully.

Actually, my daughter beat me to it and I was the one who taught her!

She re-taught the "old master" because she had improved on it. Both of us had a lot of fun and I went out to buy some more coloured cord to make some more square sinnet lanyards!:D

Leather looks great when used for lanyards and you can buy it at Michaels on a spool and in different color tones for about 17 bucks for 75 or 100 feet. I also found that if you pull the small cords out of the middle of the paracord they come out smaller for smaller knives and they can be tied a whole lot tighter.I have lanyards on everything.I will post it if I can find it againbut I found a site that has skull beads that fit over the paracord and the leather perfectly and only cost about 3 bucks for fifty.I have been making extra long leather sinets and making them into bracelets and incorporating the skull beads into them.I have to warn you the long ones eat up the leather.I have about fifteen feet in a bracelet and twenty five in a very cool keychain lanyard......RB

Heehee.... This is my girlfriend's stuff. I've had some practices with her using ribbons, 2 colors, about 5mm width. Found it easier and neater for beginner.
