I didn't get around to do Tatami cutting just yet but pineapples are comparable in my opinion.
The cut was effortless and if done more horizontally the top might not even have fallen off.
The blade belly ensures that the initial penetration is only at a small point and then more and more edge follows. With straight and specially forward curved blades you'll feel some more resitance on impact. The Kukri however feels the same all the way through.
The belly weight and the ergonomic handle ensure perfect edge allignment almost no matter what.
