I want to see your Hudson's Bay company knives, blankets etc.

These are two Hudsons Bay knives. One is a Gossman Knives roachbelly I just picked up, the other is a Terry Baublitz Hudson Bay camp knife that the late Terry made for Dan Schectman and Scott Gossman finished. I bought the roachbelly in a benefit for John Kiedaisch's granddaughter, and picked up the camp knife at a powwow a couple years ago.

That H.B. knife is the closest that I've ever seen to an original. Very cool.:thumbup:

UpNorth. The HB caption says it was found "one mile North-East of P.A", where is "P.A."? Thanks. John

Prince Albert Saskatchewan. To the west and south was open prarrie. The fur traders bartered for buffalo meat from the natives (Gros Ventre, meaning Big Bellies in french and the Cree, sometimes the Black Foot). Some of the larger trade posts dug pits, cut river ice and filled the pits with buffalo quarters to get the traders through winter. This was along the North Saskatchewan river, considered a fur trade highway back in the day. One of the posts on the river was simply a supply provisions point. I used to find processed, cracked open, buffalo bones along the river bank. Fur trade rings, Voyageur buttons, scrapers, knives etc. Bones were broken open and processed for the tallow used in pemican. Pemican and dried meat were the only semi non perishables, if kept dry.... Fort Carlton or Carlton House as it was called at that time was a Hudson Bay trading post about a hours drive from Prince Albert, were I lived. I used to metal detect the river banks for relics. Sir John Franklin made a study of the area before his famous arctic expedition were he and his crew vanished.

I only learned recently that Mors Kochanski lived in P.A. years ago also.

Hey Dan here's a great thread on this blade:

Dan S. has some comments in it also. I have just one left, A Brent Q. Used to have a Mike Mann but sadly traded it away. She's out in Colorado now.

Ed, I've got a Mike Mann HBC I actually traded from Dan at one of Scott's campouts. Used it to bust up some cherry trees, very nice blade. Need to get some pics up.

Thanks for the link.

Upnorth, that sounds like a lot of fun, thanks for the link also.

Brain fart, I also have a Condor Hudson Bay, a great user too.

Thanks guys. I think that we have many similar interests. I have the Condor Hudson Bay also and it is great fun to have. :)

I have yet to buy one, but I have used one for a day or two and loved the Condor version of the Hudson Bay. Definitely on my to-get list.

Man I have been pining over Mike Mann's HB knife for like 5 years but just can't afford it. The only HB I own to date is a Condor. It's a decent made-to-use blade that can chop nice and take a beating.

It is a nice blade. Both of you should spend the extra coin on a Mann HBC. I traded mine and already have traders remorse.

I hear you. A hundred or a bit more for a knife is an easy nail for me on a pay day, while being financialy responsible. But a Busse, which I do covet, would be a set aside coin for several pay days situation. Thankfully I can easily buy an ESEE or Condor and still have great fun.

No regrets getting my IKW Hudson. I had Mike shorten the blade and thin the blade so it is a compromise between hacker, wacker and slicer. Skins an elk mighty fine too!!!

Matt of ML Knives also makes a fine looking version of the Hudson Bay Knife !

Some great ones so far.

I only have a Condor Hudson Bay (heck of a knife for the $).

You ain't kidding what a forged blade can do. This is my Walter Davis forged HB after taking a couple of palettes worth of abuse. It still made nice curlies.
