Does anyone here know where you can buy the market equivalent of them?

They look much much better than the typical MRE, and I can't find them anywhere.

I have seen them on several of the survival food/supply web sites, but none recently. After the earthquake in Haiti the need for MRE's and HDR's went through the roof, supplies depleted, and prices went up. If I happen to come upon them I will shoot you a message and let you know.

people really need to stop overlooking cans. Soup, fruit, chili, corned beef, tuna... I can't fathom why people spend so much money on MRE's and other freeze dried trail food when cans last forever, have many more improvised uses than a shredded MRE pouch and sure as hell taste alot better. You can have your five fingers of death, I'll be eating steak and barley stew or canned peaches.

Last I ever saw any actually for sale was about 2 1/2 years ago, and the guy said he was at the end of his stocks and had no way of getting any more.

They're not. They come with MRE crackers, peanut butter, and strawberry jam. MRE rasins, MRE oatmeal cookies, and MRE fig bars.

The entrees are all vegetarian, and they suck. Well, maybe not if you don't mind having beans with your beans, with half a pound of sugar on top. Most of the calories come from sugar. Seriously, everything is sweet, some sickeningly so.

MREs are much better if that's your thing.

Payette:
The five fingers of death hasn't been on the menu for a long time. Unfortunately, neither has Chicken a la King, which was one of my favorites.

I actually like MREs.

BUT. . .

I agree, they are expensive for what they are.

Canned goods are :
1.) Cheaper.
2.) Often (but not always) better tasting (I dig the Hormel roast beef over some reconstituted potatoes)
3.) Keep indefinitely
4.) More variety.

Now I have to admit, if you're an ounce counter, the freeze-dried meals like Mountain House do weigh less. Problem is, they are expensive, require heating water (canned stuff can be eaten out of the can), and are insane on their serving size. If you;'re out and about working off some calories, you need to eat like 4 servings (2 of their "double serving" pouches) to get enough calories. At which point, you're paying even more to double the number you're taking, and they get extra bulky since you have to carry so many.
