Hello All,

Was recently given a Plumb double bit and have been trying to ID exactly which it was and what the approximate date of manufacture was. It has a rectangle Logo that doesn't seem very common and a triangle touch mark on the opposite side of the blade. It was in very rough shape when given to me and I am trying to bring it back to working status.

Anyone have the straight poop on this old fellow?

I think the rectangle enclosed PLUMB stamp originated in the late teens/early 1920s.

Thank you for the reply!

I found some info here while searching. Yesteryears tools has some really good info on plumb, but I did not see this trademark. The ones I see usually have more rounded lettering and this one appears to be more blocky...letters thinner, squared corners.

The triangle touch mark is also a curiosity as far as I have been able to tell. There are speculations, but no documented answers. I'm not trying to get a selling price on the axe as it was a gift and already has become dear to me. Just genuinely curious as I became fascinated with the history involved with these vintage axes. I would like to be able to properly tell the story of the blade when asked.

Operator1975 has a Plumb history thread on the go and there have been recent ones on hatchets. Use the search feature on here. There are enough pristine Plumbs around that collector value of yours is such that resurrecting and using it is probably a way better idea.

That is the plan! This is going to stay with me for sentimental reasons. Hope I can make it into a good chopper again. Seems like it's worn enough that the cheeks are a bit thick and will need to be reduced.
