Guys,

Does carbon fiber change colour like G10? Is all G10 the same? I have one knife that that went kind of pale. What causes G10 to change colour?

??

Which is more likely to serve a lifetime? G10 or carbon fiber? Which will still look good over time?

Thanks for your advice...:)

The only way I think you could get G10 to change would be by sun-bleaching it. I don't suppose you left it outside a few days in the summer, did you? It's supposed to ressist all oils and what not. I'm pretty sure you can't even dye G10 after it has been set.
I have no insights as to which will "stay pretty" logner. But then I also haven't had any experience with G10 changing color. Weird.

I dont' think it changes color either. As it gets scuffed and worn dirty, it looks different, but that's not the same as a color change.

Well, It has been left on the dashboard many times, left unwashed after use with mud on the handle ,and was washed with washing up liquid many times.

Its that kind of knife

I think G10 begins to look...less black after hard use...the tops of the g10 grippy raised areas gets worn down in some places and they look lighter when worn down and it gives it an overall more bleached look. When my para came, the G10 grippy raised areas were shiny....and they still are in some parts...but you can see where it has worn down a litte. Really though, pretty impressive longevity...I hate getting scratches in my handles, and this stuff seems really tough.

I've had G-10 and aluminum handles turn dusty after sitting in cases with foam inserts. I washed them down with alcohol, which removed all the discoloration.

I believe some G-10 will glow a bit under UV. I wonder how much of this might contribute to "discoloration"? Maybe it's the shine that's gone and the true, duller color showing through. (Although we aren't supposed to see ultraviolet, the interface of violet/ultraviolet is what gives brighter laundry whites their extra-bright effect.)

The G10 on my spydies gets grayish and dull but the benchmade g10 seems to stay dark and bright.

I had a Benchmade 732BT that I was storing in a foam insert gun case and the G-10 got a light discoloration to it. I never tried alcohol but I will keep that in mind.

Although cabon fiber is lighter than G10 (some may see this as a benefit), it's my understanding that it's more brittle. I've heard of carbon fiber scales cracking where the pivot screw/bolt goes through (not due to over-tightening of the screw, but from general use. I suppose it's from repeated impace, i.e. opening & closing).

I'd go with G10.

Peace.
