I gotta admit that I was so amped for this knife, heard nothing but great things about the Sog Pillar. It looked great, and just fit the bill for what I wanted in a fixed blade knife. I love s35vn steel, but when I got it in, it was as blunt as a butter knife. The factory edge on this knife was pathetic. It's a $200.00 knife, and I shouldn't have to fix the edge on it when it arrives. I'm not kidding. I got butter knives that cut better than this thing. It failed the paper test, and it feels like a butter knife edge. How does that happen??? Well, as soon as you start thinking SOG has their act together, they show you who they really are once again. I'm just sad.

Are you sure you’re not confusing this with the CKRT Pilar and forgot to open the blade of a budget folder?
…and, if you really spent $200 on a SOG, where can I get what you’re smoking? I really need a day “off” too.
Pics or it didn’t happen.

I’ve seen some wonky edges before but very rarely on expensive knives. A slightly uneven bevel is one thing, but it should at least be sharp. I’d contact the retailer and try to get a replacement.

I don't have time for your childish drivel.
A poor edge on a knife is fixable, but I would be disappointed to receive a knife with a poorly sharpened edge at that price point.
Yes, I'm very upset about it. It should have a fantastic edge at $200 price point. I should have to sharpen it like they never even bothered to do it in the first place.

First SOG I got was the "Bowie" with brass guard. VERY sharp. So I popped for the Government Model. It arrived as if deliberately blunted for safety. Where the edge should have been was over 1/16" wide. So I sharpened it, but geeesh! Never tempted again by a picture of a SOG.

Plenty of expensive knives come with edges that are nearly unusable for one reason or another. It’s a factory-produced large scale knife. It’s not batch-made. Sharpen it and call it good. I sharpen all of my knives when they come in, because very frequently factory edges comes overburdened and fatigued.

Unfortunate the edge stinks but that is easily fixable.

I also agree that the higher the cost of the knife, the greater the expectations for sharpness right out of the box.

Aside from the edge, how is the rest of the knife?

I agree that a dull edge is a bummer at $200. But since you’ll be sharpening it periodically anyway (especially if you use it frequently) then l don’t see it as that big a deal.

I've had plenty of knives from SOG, I'd wager more than all but a few current members here. Never had one so dull that I felt the need to start a thread about it. I've had lots of other knives from most of the other major manufacturers as well. Nearly all have let a knife slip out the door that wasn't as sharp as it should have been. One of the Cold Steel Recon 1s I had was pretty dull. Funny considering the big deal they make with that red tape warning you about how dangerously sharp the knife is lol! I wonder if they still do that under GSM?

Anyway, given your propensity of hyperbole considering all your other threads with extreme view points, it is hard to tell how serious of an issue this is. If it is truly butter knife dull, and it upsets you so, send that puppy back! If you intend to use the knife, it will get dull so you'll end up sharpening it, just do that now. If you don't intend to use the knife, does it really matter if it is sharp anyway?

Just some thoughts on my experiences and what I might do if I were in your shoes. BTW, I've had the Pillar and it is a very good knife. Sharpen the thing up and put it to use!
