I need thoughts on 5.11 Rush 24 and 72

I just thought with all the good information and discussions that I have read and seen here, you all might have some insight. I need to get a new small to medium pack for day hikes/bug out bag that has a good method of holding my tweener when I get it... (does that make this knife related?) I have been looking at Maxpedition and 5.11 and the 5.11 looks like it has better shoulder straps and might be more comfortable. My uses will be general carry bag/BOB and may use for a heavy day hike. Any suggestions? Are there other ones I should look at?

Clich and Cpt have the Rush 12. I have a 5.11 push bag. They are well made and a good value. Very heavy duty zippers and seams.

I don't have one but I like the RUSH 12. I think if I had the larger ones I would just carry more junk and I am tring to cut back on the junk I carry. If you think a sling pack would work for you look at the maxpedition sitka. It looks good.

Depends on, what your needs are, and what you want to carry. I have a Maxpedition Vulture II as my B.O.B. , and a Maxpedition Lunada Gearslingler for my EDC. In my Lunada, I carry my BK2 on the side and 14 in that nice lttle pocket at the top. Easy to get to quick when needed. I don't have my CCW yet, but will within a month, I will carry my Kimber Tatical Ultra II. I'm a prepper, so I also have a small fishing kit, gloves, first aid, fire starting material, food, survival book, 550 cord, flash light, ect. All the crap, you need to get home with. The bigger Vulture II, is sleeping system, clothes, more food, cooking equip, water fiters, blah, blah, blah.
If you want a nice med. size bag, I'd look at the Maxpedition Moonsoon Gearslinger or any thing small than the Vulture II. Hope this helps a little! :D

How tall are you? I'm 6'2 and I've found that the Maxpedition packs simply don't fit my torso length.

This is ok for light loads, but not for anything over 15 lbs or so since it's all on your shoulders. Waist belt did nothing for me as it didn't take any of the weight from my shoulders. No complaints about the build quality though.

No experience with the 5.11 although their yoke/ shoulder straps do look like they may be better. I've read conflicting things about the quality of Maxpedition vs 5.11, but like I said, no personal experience. I would like to try the Rush 12 some day for a smaller pack.

I've got the 5.11 Rush 24 and a couple maxpedition products (pistol bagx2, couple other accessories no bags though), both IMO are great quality, heavy duty zippers, thick water resistant nylon, etc. Do keep in mind though the 5.11 doesn't have a hip belt so I wouldn't recommend a lot of weight for long distances with it.

I had the Rush 72 awhile ago but it was alittle big so I decided to sell it and get the Rush 24. I like the Rush 24 but also picked up a Rush 12 for use when biking and made my Rush 24 into a BOB type bag. I do wish I didnt sell the Rush 72 though as I would have liked to keep that out just in case I needed one bigger than the Rush 24....

Anyone have a 12 and 24 they can show side-by-side?

The Rush 12 is badass. So is the Rush 24. You can't go wrong with either.

I got the 24 and the 72. The 24 I keep in the truck as a GHB, and the 72 I keep at home as a BOB. Features, built quality (1000 denier cordura) and design, I really liked the 5.11 packs the best out of the major makers.

They're good packs. I'm pleased with the quality, but I'm not a pack whore. Lots of pockets and MOLLE for organization. For anything short of "serious backpacking", when you would want a properly fitted pack with a waist strap, I think the 5.11 bags are a good choice.

Ok, this slid past me.

Brain, you're still kinda new, so, when you are asking about gear, make sure its about BKT and gear. There is a dedicated forum for stuff like this and unless it pertains to BKT, it won't fly here.

I'll let this go, as long as we throw some more Becker on the fire, that is this thread.

Thanks SS! I actually just saw this pic in the other thread and thought, "wish granted".

I made a point that it has to be able to fit my BK5 or BK2 on the side! I just need a good carry bag that my knives can make look even better.... Oh and has to have velcro for my new patches! Thanks for looking out for me Brother!

I am thinking I am going to go with the 24. Now I have to get it before the Becker Gathering in May.
