Hi all,

Is it possible to find/buy "made in FINLAND" Fiskar's tools such as the X7 size Hatchet or for that matter, the Fiskar's BRUSH Axe, or, are all their products now made in China ? If "made in FINLAND" products are available in the U.S., where might they be purchased ? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bat,

If I understand you correctly, you're saying only the Fiskar's Axe are made in Finland and the other tools are made in China ?

Regards,

AS I understand it, there is a version of the brush axe that's being made in Finland, but it doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. I've seen videos on youtube. It's got the same kind of redesigned handle as the X7 hatchet.

Pretty much. Of all of the Fiskar's item I have handled, only the axes were marked as "Made in Finland". That and I saw a pair grass shears that were marked as "Made in Finland" a few months ago at a Wal Mart." I agree with the poster above. I recall the brush axe being marked China.

And I saw the axes at a Wal Mart in TN just a couple of days ago. Wal Mart had the hatchet and splitting axe. They might have had the 23.5" axe but I didn't notice it. You might also try Sears. That is the store I purchased my axes from.

While I don't have the Fiskars X7, the one on my Fiskars X15 simply says "FINLAND" as pictured here:

Hope that's good as implying "Made in Finland" if these axes are.

Hi BFE,

Exactly! When I see "word play/word speak" such as marked on you're Fiskar's, one can NOT be sure where's it's made. Man, this kind of stuff really bugs me! In my book, if a product do not have a definitive statement such as "MADE IN.....", I'm suspect. I've notice for years the games that some companies play with this "word play". For instance, an ad may read how it's product is DESIGNED (for example) in Sweden but later one discovers it's MADE in China. I really hate this kind of marketing. It's a lot like politics!

It is a game for sure. For example by law in Switzerland a watch may be designated "made in Switzerland" if it is to some degree put together there but it cannot be designated "Swiss made" unless all the components have been manufactured and assembled into the final product within the borders of that country.

The Fiskars axe below is easy to understand. There is no outright indication of the origin of the axe, only that Fiskars is a Finnish company. The obscurity makes it clear enough exactly where the axe was made, China.

I hear you on that. I tell my friends that just because a product is "Origin Country" Designed, Engineered, or Inspired, doesn't necessarily mean the product is made in said country.

No no, not at all, it's just the PR end of the chain and once you know not to get caught up in it might stimulate, further inquiry, making contact with the makers, knowing what it is you are actually looking into, all a matter of responsible consumerism if that is not a contradiction in terms.

From fiskars site
"Proudly made in Finland, our axes are designed to be simple, functional and effective, helping you get more work done in less time."

Ok BB,

I'm just gonna have to contact FISKAR's of FINLAND myself (when I have the time) and ask them directly.
Thanks BB.

The whole point is just what that claim might mean, unless that is, you are willing to take it on face value. In that case, "buyer beware" is a much less ambiguous cliché.

I just picked up one of the Fiskars X7 hatchets. On the packaging, it says "made in Finland". Hopefully these pictures I took of the packaging post correctly. Regardless of where it's made, it's a nice piece.
