I know these aren't very expensive to begin with, but I managed to pick one of these up at my local hardware store for $5 bucks because it was returned as being "Defective"

I couldn't see any visual flaws but when I opened the blade I found that I couldn't close it again without excessive force.

At first I couldn't help think that this is why it's defective? Then I realized that there must be some trick that I must be missing, and sure enough a quick google search later and I find out you need to press all the other attachments in to release the lock.

I can't help but wonder if it was originally returned because the person didn't know how to close it? And why doesn't companies like Schrade include a instruction pamphlet?

So far it seems like a pretty decent tool even at the regular price, I especially like the pliers. Anyone else have any experience with these?

What the regular price? Anything to compare it to? And because schrade is a cheap company like kobalts multi tools. They think people will just figure it out

I think the regular price was $30.00 Can. I had a older Leatherman before which I gave away to my Brother, so I was expecting the Schrade to function similarly. The finish is not as good as the Leatherman, but so far it's holding up to my day-to-day hobby use.

I've been reading reviews on the Schrade, and most of the bad reviews people mention "It's too hard to close" or "They couldn't close it"

I bought my dad one of those years ago when the plied based multitools really took off.

It was a surprisingly good tool. Nice find. Dad still has his.
