I prefer the winter and fall vs. the spring and summer

Yup, I like the winter and fall more than the summer and spring. Really for four good reasons; higher visibility, quieter, no allergies, and I hate hot weather. I know that there is much more to do in the summer and spring, but I still prefer the winter. I guess I like the sensation when I breath cold air into my lungs, the crisp air blowing in my face, the sound of my footsteps in the snow, and the fact that because of the snow sound is muffled. I know that in a survival scenario, winter is like the final nail in a coffin. But for someone of a husky build, winter is my element. I have the muscle to haul my extra body weight around, and the blubber to keep me warm. Which season do you prefer?

I'm with you! I'm in St. Louis, Mo. We have 4 separate seasons for sure. Over the past few years we've had extreme temperatures. 2 summers ago we had a month of over 100* heat. This past winter we had multiple single digit days with wind chills well below zero.

All that said, I still prefer winter. There is something I enjoy about heavy boots, well worn jeans, a hooded sweatshirt and my good ol' standby insulated bib overalls.

Everything takes longer in the cold, but I don't mind. No allergies is a big plus too, not to mention no bugs either. I'd be happy is it never got warmer than 55* - 60*

Spring, summer and fall. As I have gotten older my tolerance of cold has waned. I can stand heat much better. It was only 89 today yet my workers wanted to quit mid day because of the "heat". I was good to go to work a full 12 hours, and still was at work an hour before and after them. We were building a swimming pool, a 9' deep hole in the ground surrounded by shiny galvanized steel walls. Felt good to me. Might have been mid 90's in the hole. Sure beat 8 degrees that we had here this winter. Plus I can canoe to my heart's content without fear of hypothermia from getting wet. I have no allergies. Bugs can be bothersome at times but they can be dealt with.

I agree with Codger, I hate winter and the older I get the more I hate it. I like to get out on the river and swim and float. I don't like layering clothes and bundling up, cleaning off my car, clearing ice and all that stuff. The one drawback to summer is I hate snakes and I run in to them where I work and play.

I like fall , spring And summer are much better than winter. 32 years living in n.j. I've seen my share of cold weather and snow.

I really like the change of seasons, but, I really get tired of dealing with snow when there is a lot of it.

Plus, it really hinders riding motorcycles.

Living a mile from the Delaware river and spending a good chunk of time traveling parallel to the river as I run about my daily business.

I love the view of the river, fall, winter and early spring sports the best views of the river especially when riding the ridge road on Mount Jack overlooking the river from about 200' above. Plus add to the fact that I can always put on more clothes to stay warm, if get arrested for indecent exposure on a 90° of it wasn't for the ac.. ;)

I don't even mind the snow, I haven't shoveled snow in the last 15 years, my buddy plows my driveway and around the barn every time it snows, he even brings me a cup of coffee. :)

Nice pandaren avatar :)

I am very skinny and I hate winter with a passion. Strongly considering moving out of Wisconsin as soon as possible. I love 80-90 degree weather. And I HATE shoveling/snowblowing...it's just a massive waste of time. Not to mention roads being extremely dangerous after heavy snowfall and idiots crashing and burning all around me. I could go on and on.

I ride when ever the temps hit the 50° mark so long as there's no ice or snow on the road, otherwise I ride out at least until my shoulder surgery back in February. I might not get the bike on the road this season but between all my buddy's bikes and then always asking me to work on them I'll get my riding in. ;)

I'm definitely a winter guy. i really enjoy the December muzzleloader season. and, i love to ski (downhill). I agree INFK, there is something about being outdoors in the cold. but, with that said. come April, i am also ready for the warmer weather. i also love to fish, hike, etc*. so, it works out.

*to clarify..."etc" means, "sit on the deck in the sun with a cold beer"

I hate summer - bugs (especially ticks), heat and humidity - totally sucks. When it gets above 70 degrees, it's too hot. The only good thing about summer is the biodiversity of the plants and trees (and possibly bikinis). To those who like summer, you're welcome to mine.

Huh, now that you mention it, that bear is from one of WoW expansions. Never played it, couldn't find my original avatar so I just went with something similar.

Anyways, I lived in Sicily for two years and that country is hot. I recall a few summers being 115 degrees, and it turns out that A/C is not standard even in new houses.

Summer here is so much easier
Nothing to carry except water and a hat

Don't get me wrong
I loved winter campng in 6 ft of snow and -20 F, but it was hard work to stay alive....

Define winter. Define summer. These things are not the same everywhere. -40c ain't much fun but then again neither is +40c. I'll take a comfortable +20c.

I've spent most of my life in the frozen north where the winter days are short to nonexistant, the snow is deep and it gets dangerously cold.

Been there done that. You can't grow food worth a damn and the snow just gets in the way. Winter is expensive too... that snowplow or heating bill yikes.... Oh and the gear needed just to stay alive is bulky.

I've never had a severe winter that lasted the entire winter. Most the winters here are cold; like between 15F to 40F, but we don't get much snow. I would say 4 inches was the average this past winter. A perfect winter for me is probably 25F, with 2 inches on the ground.

Living in Florida, the best seasons for me are fall and winter for deer and hog hunting. Early spring is really beautiful, gobbler turkey season.
But now, the damn yellow flies are a major problem and it's starting to be in the high 80's every day... so, I go fishing.
If I want to see snow, I go out West to Colorado or Montana to visit it, but I don't want to live in it.

I think this is a matter of where you live to some extent. Here early fall and early spring are best for me. There's a chill in the air to take the bite off the heat and some overcast which is good for hiking and moving around but it's warm enough that you don't have to wear a bunch of layers either. Also, this time of year is pretty awesome. It's warm enough for all the plants to spring new growth and there's still rain at times. Everything comes alive and it's that life that I like about being out. You can keep your mountain vistas, your waterfalls, and your lakes...I'll take a small patch of trees teeming with life in a back lot anyday. I've seen so many posts from people in dry and hot locations(looking at you SoCal.:D) and all I can say when someone says how pretty the scenary is is "Those brown/dead hills are pretty? They've never seen Oregon." ;)

Where i live i'm pretty sure we hold the record in the USA for coldest temp on record. -60 below zero in 1994 or 96 i believe. Winter is mostly constant -30 for 4 or 5 or almost 6 months out of the year and this year we had plenty of days at -40 and -50. when it gets that cold i can tolerate it but can't go out for to long. Too long and you will die or get frostbite. I too like the OP said i like to breathe in cool air for most part, i hate breathing in dry heat.We only get a maybe a month or so of 80 above days here a year. My prefered temp would be about 50 or 60. I like fall the best. Nice and cool, all the hunting seasons are starting,it's when all the good holidays are, ect. But like all the seasons for different reasons. Nice to have variety.

Acctually just checked lowest USA temp record and we don't have the record. Lots of other states have had -60 records some almost -70 Alaska had -80!. We have the coldest record temp in the state though.

I do a lot of hiking and fishing during the summer, but I always camp/backpack in fall/early spring. I love the lack of other people, no bugs, not so hot where you feel like you need to shower because you're so sticky from humidity. I love the forests here in New England during the fall and Spring, honestly going to a national forest here when it's cold outside to camp you won't find many other people. I hate going places during the summer an being surrounded by huge amounts of loud people and crying kids, it really takes the point out of it for me.
