Okay... the KaBar Becker BK2 in Magnacut Steel is my grail knife when it comes to fixed blades, but the price is insane right now, so I'm waiting until it comes down, hopefully, or inflation goes down, hopefully. Does anyone have one of these yet? I would love to hear about it if you do.

Hi Everyone,

with todays' knivesandtools newsletter I was made aware of the exclusive Becker BK72:

BK72.JPG

It's a 1/4" thick slab of CPM S35VN Steel at 58RC with micarta scales and a kydex sheath.

The price of 285€ for the stonewashed & 325€ for the black DLC'd version is quite a bit much to swallow.

If his would have been 3V I'd be more exited, but it still is Becker news :)
Here's one in S35VN, so they have made them in a different steel before. Maybe your grail knife has a chance of becoming a reality!

Yep... way too expensive for me, so just hoping it comes down to the $200-250 range at some point.
There is a well known, reputable Ka Bar dealer who is offering them in that exact price range. I do not think this dealer is on the list of BF supporters, so I won't post a link, but they are discussed at length in this thread: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/new-bk82.2011756/

Good luck, and be sure to post pics and your thoughts after using it.

Disclaimer 1: I'm a huge Becker BK-2 fan.

Disclaimer 2: I'm not exactly thrown into a frenzy by the word "Magnacut".

Disclaimer 3: I know (*or it strongly appears to me) that this particular knife is not exactly seeing widespread love by a lot of the Becker folks.

At the end of last month, my finances landed in a good spot. Considering all the above, I ordered one from a Distributor. (*I'm not posting the name because I'm not sure of the rules.) So, whenever the Distributor gets his stock, I should have one on the way.

For me, the BK-82 was a no-brainer. Despite not usually and specifically seeking-out Magnacut knives, I truly appreciate all the time/effort/knowledge/passion that Dr. Thomas put into making that steel a reality. It seems to have a really great balance of the "trifecta" of steel properties. A 1/4" of that steel should be tougher than I'll ever need. Beyond that, its corrosion resistance is off the charts, and that's a huge plus for a knife with the "Campanion" moniker...at least in my humble opinion.

Living in an extremely moist climate as I do, you just hit the nail on the head. I often go catfishing on camping trips during the summer months for days on end, and this BK2 is incredibly useful for camping chores, heavy duty tasks, and processing wood, but when I get back, I'm exhausted and the last thing on my mind is wiping my BK2 down with oil, and there's just no way around the BK2 not getting soaked during a trip like this, and the next morning, it was rust city. Now the functioning of the knife is okay with rust, but who the hell wants that? I mean, it also limits the things it can do, although it doesn't render the knife useless or anything. For my purposes, the BK2 in Magnacut steel is a winner all the way for its ability to withstand corrosion in a wet environment, so that's the key with me, but I gotta admit that I'm not excited about the price.

As oldmanwilly oldmanwilly mentioned, they're out there right now at a truly competitive price. You just need to enlist your Google fu.

Like you, I'm excited to receive it. I can't tell you how many times that I've passed-out at the hunting lease, only to awaken to find that it had drizzled during the night, and my knife was either on top of the wood pile or the plating surface near the grill.

Lovely.

A familiar and tough design, in a fantastic steel, that is basically "zero maintenance"? Hell yeah, count me in! ❤️

*EDIT- Oh yeah, as someone mentioned in the other thread (*and I forgot to mention), it's also quite lovely/aesthetically appealing for my eyes.

Ahhh yes, summer camp for men, where for every minute spent in the woods, three must be equally spent spinning ever growing yarns, showing off guns/knives, grilling, and drinking.
It’s making me long for those days just talking about it.

I did get a big doe this morning……
Although, I sincerely wish it wouldn’t have been with the front of my truck. Had to deliver the coup de gras with my truck edc since apparently 4,800 pounds of govt motors steel at 58 fps didn’t do the trick.
